Why Philip Moriarty starts off incorrectly in his "When the Uncertainty Principle Goes to 11 or How to Explain Quantum Physics with Heavy Metal book (2018)

Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying his laid back and detailed, entertaining writing style, despite the fact that I don't generally like Heavy Metal as a music genre. He says he's not going to make the mathematics "obscured" since it's "fairly easy to translate much of the mathematical notation into musical concepts." (p. 15) and in the footnote adds, "We might lose something in the translation, but we can get the core ideas across."

So, he's talking about Fourier analysis and also states there's no need to know musical notation to read his book. "And you're not going to need to be able to read music to understand any of this book." (footnote, p. 12)

So, here's the problem with this - he pulls what I call the "Bait and Switch" as the "rotten root" at the foundation of Western science with its secret origin in music theory - maybe that's why I prefer Punk or Hardcore music (the inner city genre) as punk means "rotten" compared to Heavy Metal which is a white suburban genre. Sorry but I just had to say it. haha.

So what do I mean by the "bait and switch" -? Right off the bat Philip (a physics professor of course) - starts off by defining sound waves as a visual measurement.

"Luckily, there is a technique that allows us to visualize sound waves - to see sound - in a more instructive way." p. 7 Oops - he neglects to mention that a musician can HEAR sound or LISTEN to sound at up to ten times FASTER than Fourier Uncertainty or time to frequency transformation! So why would someone want to "see" sound in the first place?

Musicians rely in LISTENING to sound and based on music theory.

So why is this more than just a nitpick criticism? Right away he uses the term "a time axis" - and he never mentions he's already assuming a SYMMETRIC visual measurement that is not accurate to the truth of music!!

So then he says this "time axis" is a period as a Hertz (measured in seconds on page 10) .... So, he defines the Pythagorean periodicity principle of frequency as inverse to time in Hertz (that already assumes an irrational magnitude symmetric geometry definition of time). Oops!! That's the Rotten Root right there. But since he's calling it "time" then the hope is that this won't matter since it's so fun to "visualize" time, correct?

Now since in the West we are all brainwashed to be trained in STEM as "progress" of technology the refusal to accept time as a visual spatial measurement or a symmetric axis is going to be brushed off as being spoiled. TIME to grow up someone would say. Yeah only that humans have been playing music for thousands if not millions of years before Western science was created....

And so by defining music based on the definition of physics and not by music in its own terms - then possibly we will lose the very meaning of music! But then it is a book about "heavy metal" right? So not too surprising. haha.

So, then we get the end of chapter two. He drags Pythagoras' name through the mud as is required by any properly mind-controlled science relying on the assumption of symmetric commutative geometry math. The Pythagorean Theorem was from Archytas and Euclid and Euxodus - not from Pythagoras. Oops.

So now that music has been translated into angles and triangles - we get skooled in the difference between radians and degrees. So, then we are initiated into the sacred circle of the Solar ritual priests relying on mass ritual sacrifice... with the attempt to "square" the circle by the Platonic military Pythagorean Theorem... and then the angular frequency is converted from radians. So, the Hertz is now "revolutions" around the circle....

So now Hertz has been fully assimilated as first time defined by an "axis" to time defined by a contained irrational number circle revolution of symmetric geometry.

Then he says that the sine wave enables us to analyze resonance as a concept that crosses all scale of physics. OK but you just defeated your definition of resonance by basing it on the rotten root of time as defined by a symmetric circle!

So, in the end the true meaning of music as the secret of noncommutative time-frequency is lost. Will it be regained as he connects back to quantum mechanics? Possible. All I can do is continue reading to find out. Am I learning science? Yes, I enjoy learning, but I still get to critique it as I go along.

As my quantum mechanics professor insisted everyone should learn quantum mechanics as their FIRST physics class and that is what I did and so I learned that the true foundation of reality is actually a 720-degree revolution that is noncommutative time-frequency through a 4th dimension of space that inherently cannot be seen.

I think that takes us back to the truth of Pythagorean philosophy as based on listening and not based on visualizing sound as a symmetric geometry.
