That's a good question. When the Shaolin trained qigong master Chunyi Lin was first in the U.S. he went to teach the elderly in Mankato Minnesota. He had to be very careful because he saw these huge male guardian spirits. He had to be careful not to upset them. He asked his friend who drove him down there - what happened here? Then he learned how those spirits were guarding the largest mass hanging in U.S. history from the Dakota Uprising of 1862.
I personally saw ghosts that were coming to get healed around Chunyi Lin when he was meditating in full lotus padmasana at a Christian retreat center in the forest in Minnesota. I didn't say anything to anyone when I saw these yellow lights shaped as humans float in from outside the room - and hover around Chunyi. He said, "Since someone can see this then I will explain what it is." I was finishing my master's degree at University of MInnesota through the AFrican Studies Department with Professor Rose Brewer - I did "self-directed research" in nonwestern meditation. So as part of my research I had recently read the most famous Buddhist master of Thailand - Phra Acharn Mun - his biography is now free online. As a synchronicity he also explained how he regularly healed ghosts of dead people. Kind of fascinating that even ghosts need to be healed. haha. Take care.
