"Earth Dreams" sells Melamine bamboo cutting boards. They are 15% melamine-starch resin.
They are marketed as all natural, etc. but melamine is synthetic and the bamboo cutting board gets cut marks easily. They are dishwasher "safe" but melamine is not supposed to get over 160 F. while a sterilizing dishwasher gets to 150 F.
So the 15% melamine-starch resin in the bamboo will then leach into foods when the cut marks are made.
Dr. Renate Reimschuessel PROVED that Melamine combines with uric acid in the kidneys - to then eventually stop the ability to urinate...and kidney failure due to lack of blood to the kidney
Over two years of rats on a high level Melamine diet - the rats got crystals from the melamine combining with uric acid....
So they are very fine crystals ....that are spheres or spherulites.
Spherulites are polycrystalline aggregates composed by highly anisometric crystallites called subindividuals or subunits.
The pathologists were preserving the Kidneys in formaldehyde that dissolved the crystals!! So no one believed her. So she tracked down ONE sample that had been frozen without formaldehyde.
So she proved - that they were the same crystals seen by the pathologists but that the formaldehyde dissolved them - and proved that the crystals were a combination of melamine and Cyanuric acid.
The Chinese businesses were sneaking in melamine due to the nitrogen triggering a "higher protein" rating - in both pet food and infant formula!! Also in live stock feed and fish feed....
So now follow up studies are tracking the Melamine levels that people can be exposed to through food
So the melamine tableware had levels higher than allowed - as food contact migration....
OOPS china mass produces "Melamine Lacquer" and it gets marketed as "natural lacquer" on bamboo?
I just emailed "Totally Bamboo" to find out if their lacquer is Melamine. I doubt they even know. haha.

Their corporate response is that it's FDA approved lacquer - and that's melamine!
