The Lungs also direct Qi downward. A full inhalation can only occur when the Lungs send Qi down to the Kidneys, which in turn “Grasp The Qi.” This is essentially “Dantian Breathing,” or “Kidney Breathing,” the deep abdominal breathing advocated in meditation, Nei Gong and the martial arts. For this reason, natural deep breathing is of paramount importance in the internal arts.
P’o represents the physical body; h’un the spiritual body. Now, at the time of death, if the Three Treasures are not cultivated the p’o descends to earth with the yuan shen (original spirit) to become a ghost, which dies off relatively quickly. If, on the other hand, the Three Treasures are cultivated, then the yuan shen ascends to heaven with the h’un, thus becoming one of the three stages of immortals: Ti Hsien (Earthly Immortal), T’ien Hsien (Heavenly Immortal) and Yang Hsien (Pure Immortal).Albanese, Catherine, American Spiritualities: A Reader, Bloomington: Indiana Univ. Press, c. 2001, p. 511, n. 10.)
The eyes not seeing locates the Hun soul in the liver.
Li Daochun
The Mercury as Yang of Heaven, the upper body starts out as Fire with hidden Earth yin wood (yin qi) inside the fire. With the eyes open during the day the our yin Hun Soul as coherent biophotons or Mercury flies out the eyes due to the Fire of the burning wood, the yin qi. This wood being yin originates from the water of Earth.
So the Water as Earth is the Po Soul that is secretly pulled to the Hun Soul since the yang qi hidden in the water is the Metal of the fire Heaven. So as the wood yin qi goes out of the eyes with the Hun Soul as Mercury light this pulls up the Metal in the Water as Earth of the Po Soul. The Yang Fire of Mercury attracts the Metal to heat it up.
The yin qi of wood attracts the water that is also yin - as Earth.
So in alchemy this loss of the hidden Yang Qi of metal via the Po Soul attached to the Hun Soul must be stopped. It is also called the "Separation of Heaven and Earth" because Earth is only restored by the Wood yin qi NOT going out the eyes but instead the Mercury as fire Yang being Turned Around to heat up the yin water.
This heating up of the yin water then causes the metal as black lead to stop the mercury fire from flying out of the eyes as the Hun Soul. Instead it merges with the Po Soul to create the Yuan Shen as the Silvery Moon Light of Heaven. The mercury FLOATS on the water instead of being heated up as yin qi that FLIES out of the fire eyes.
The Water as Earth then causes the Mercury as Golden Yang Fire to now DESCEND down the front channel through Golden nectar ambrosia - the Immortal Seed. This can ONLY happen AFTER the generative or jing force as yin qi of wood is completely restored back to the water. So that the Moon light as yellow sprouts now enables the silver light of the Yang Qi to rise back up to Heaven (also called Essential Nature of the upper body).
So that is how the third eye opens up as the FIRST HALF of immortality training. The Yang Qi is now activated as the True Yang of Heaven as the restored Metal back to the Fire via the Wood having been returned to the Water to restore Earth as the Cavity of the Dragon (now the Female Dragon or Green Dragon).
So now the Cauldron HAS to be moved to the middle Tan Tien Elixir Field as Spirit-Vitality or Shen-Qi so that the Yang Qi has to sink back down by using the water with Lead metal in it - the White Tiger salvia Ambrosia - with the Mercury now transformed into Yang Golden light - which begins to build up in the middle tan tien. This ONLY happens by harmonizing the Moon or Silver shen of the yang qi of Heaven (the white tiger metal) of the right eye with the Sun shen of the yin qi of Earth (the golden yang shen light of the left eye).
So the Water of Earth enables the Mercury as golden light of the previous Hun Soul to now descend via the Yuan Shen - and this occurs as Immortal Breathing of the Yuan Qi and Yuan Shen. This is also called Nirvikalpa Samadhi or real Jnana meditation. Most people never achieve this state - as the physical breathing switches to a minimal level along with minimal heart beating. So the tummo heat gets very strong as the laser energy of spirit becomes very focused.
The light fills the third eye and light is then also seen externally. This ONLY happens after the yang jing (yin qi) has been restored to the level of a 16 year old at the prime of the Yuan Shen energy. So then as the Shen-Vitality of the middle Tan tien fills up then the mercury as golden light now absorbs more water of Earth such that the wood as yin qi - along with the yin qi of the five elements and organs of the body - all get turned into Yuan Qi via the Metal of Heaven as yang qi.
So the golden light is the manifestation of the red light or yin shen of the yang qi via the yellow light of the Yuan Shen being turned around (the yellow sprouts or yellow chamber as the Middle Tan T'ien) - which then ABSORBS blue light of the Soul - from the Future of spacetime. This is a relativistic quantum biology transformation relying on "virtual information healing" as qigong master Yan Xin calls it. So just as the element Gold relies on Nonlocal Spin of Blue light from absorbing virtual photons of the 5th dimension - so also does real alchemy in the body.
Eventually the body becomes very light - by absorbing reverse spacetime energy - such that levitation is possible. Upon further transformation then eventually a Yang Shen of Golden Light is developed that creates NEW matter from the virtual photons having been absorbed via the Yuan Shen template of the Yuan Jing (a prime health of 16 year old body when the yang qi is at its fullest).
Eventually ALL the Earth life force energy with its yin qi is converted to its hidden Yang Qi of Metal which then creates MORE Yuan Jing as water. This is called the Boy (Metal) giving birth to his Mom (water). And so there is a relativistic quantum plasma created of yang qi proton energy having merged with yin qi electron energy via virtual photons of the future. So that bilocation of Yang Shen then emerges - each one at a slightly different spacetime.
So then in the final status the physical original body is PULVERIZED by spacetime itself and what remains is the Golden Light of an eternal process of virtual photons absorbing blue light via a black hole-white hole manifestion. So the red light spacetime shift of the PAST is constantly manifesting new matter via the blue light of the future as a white hole. The Virtual Photons as Yuan Qi remain the eternal 5th dimension of the Future and Past happening at the SAME time - that can never been seen but can be listened to as noncommutative phase logic. This is called the "three in one unity" by Ramana Maharshi. It is also the merging of the Yuan three bodies (jing, qi and shen).
As the original qigong master stated in 2000 he achieved levitation after his long cave meditation and he knows of some masters working on their golden yang shen body of immortality. But in the end it is the formless Yuan Qi that remains eternal and decides when and where the Golden immortal body manifests. The more a person meditates then eventually even their spiritual ego has to be dissolved into the Non-Being or Emptiness that eternally radiates light as the Absolute Void.

"For human beings are nothing but the gathering of ch'i: they live whenever the ch'i concentrates, they die when the ch'i disperses. Nothing is more abominable to Chuang-tzu than "governing the world," since Tao in the form of yin-yang unity is the origin of everything and exercises supreme dominion over the human and cosmic worlds....the unity of yin and yang result in harmony, and that through this unity things are produced. A comparable insight is to be found in Heraclitus: "Harmony consists of opposing tension, like that of the bow and lyre." Thaddesu T'ui-chieh Hang, Taipei, "The Unity of Yin and Yang: A Philosophical Assessment"
In Daoist meditation the trigram Kan [WATER] represents the Kidneys and Dantian. Kan is full in the middle (it has a solid yang line in the middle). The yang line in the center indicates that there is a true yang-fire within yin-water.
Li [FIRE] represents the heart and chest. Li is empty in the middle. This symbolizes the hidden true yin-water within yang-fire. Normally, fire is light and rises to the chest and water is heavy and sinks to Dantian. This is the post-heaven state whose trigram configuration moves temporally from birth to death.
However if fire is brought beneath water, they mutually restrain each other and interact. This creates steam and condensation which is a rarefied energy. Then the middle lines of the trigrams switch places and the Qian [HEAVEN] trigram and Kun [EARTH] trigrams (Hexagram 11: Tai) are formed creating the original pre-heaven state, which in Daoist beliefs leads to stopping of the temporal movement and therefore “immortality”....
It is known that the two nostrils under the nose are for respiration. This is because they can correctly grasp [the Hun Soul] Heaven and Earth. In exhalation one’s own internal Yuan Qi exits. In inhalation, Heaven and Earth’s correct (positive) qi from outside, enters. When the body is strong and healthy, it is possible to take in this correct qi of Heaven and Earth, so that one’s lifespan can be lengthened. If the Jing Qi is week and feeble, the correct qi of Heaven and Earth will disperse and escape with exhalation,
the body’s Yuan Qi (Original Qi) will not return and instead will be taken by Heaven and Earth.
Everyone fails to understand that qi is the true medicine for prolonging life and cannot find the gate to enter....In the Wu Ji state, the nose develops first, and then the two eyes. The spiritual qi of the eyes comes from the brain. The manifestation of intelligence in the brain comes is generated by the heart.... If the body and form are uneasy and the heart-mind moves, then the spirit will not enter the qi and the body’s qi will be consumed and dispersed. Then one’s nature will be confused and will lack understanding. Therefore it is said that the body’s spirit must not exit. Tai Chi Chüan: Harmonizing Taoist Belief and Practice - Jeaneane D. Fowler, Shifu Keith Ewers:
The triagram Li is fire and predominantly yang, but the important middle line is yin, and so the Dragon is female. It is the yin essence in the yang, water in fire, the female in the male, the moon in the sun. It is referred to as Green Dragon....It is water that rises, being heated, and is therefore fiery but yielding, rising to Heaven.
The triagram K'an/Kan is Water and predominantly yin and female. But the middle line is yang and alchemically it is the yang in the yin, the White Tiger, ....its function is to descend to Earth when fire reacts with it. It is the fire in the water. ...the Yang within the Yin of saliva-lead to go downward... downwards they strengthened the primary chi [yuan qi].....
The Fuqi jing (Scripture on Ingesting Qi) 5th Century A.D.: Quote The Way is qi. Protecting qi, one attains the Way. Attaining the Way, one is thus well-preserved. Spirits are seminal essence. Protecting seminal essence, one's spirit becomes intelligent/bright. Illuminating one's spirits, one lives long. Seminal essence is the river-flow of the blood vessels, and the numinous spirit which protects the bones. Discarding seminal essence, ones bones become brittle and brittle bones result in death. It is true that the business of the Way is treasuring one's seminal essence. Xici, Appendix of Yijing, (3rd BCE) is first appearance of Taiji in an extant text. Change is the fundamental state, the exact opposite of Platonic metaphysics...The implication that taiji/bipolarity is somehow also nondual. Yin-yang qi is a manifestation of the unitary principle of bipolarity. Professor Joseph A. Adler
Hatha Yoga is actually Ha (Sun) tha (moon) Yoga (union) i.e. alchemy ... In the state “before Heaven,” yin and yang have a tendency to descend and ascend, respectively. In the state “after Heaven,” where original yin and yang are enclosed within entities of the opposite sign, the descending movement of yin takes along original yang, and the ascending movement of yang takes along original yin: Real Fire goes down with Water, and Real Water goes up with Fire. Original yin and yang, therefore, are bound to move in directions opposite to their authentic nature and to separate from each other.
Neidan aims to set the original yin and yang free from their corrupted counterparts and allow them to follow again their natural tendency. The inner yin line of li descends while the inner yang line of kan rises, and yin and yang can again join in the centre, this time generating the inner elixir or embryo of immortality.
This process is an inversion because it reverses the ascending movement of li/Fire and the descending movement of kan/water, but simultaneously it is not, because the movement of the inner lines follows their natural inclination. “Inversion” therefore, is a release of the natural properties of original yin and yang: The neidan process, as one often reads in the texts, is “natural” or “spontaneous” (ziran). The lungs correspond to metal. Metal originally sinks. On account of what is it yet able to float? The liver corresponds to wood. Wood originally floats. On account of what is it yet able to sink?... The lungs being caused to receive qi have yi wood located within and so it floats. The liver being caused to receive qi has geng metal located within and so it sinks. So then it is explained through hexagrams. p. 69... metal turns into Kan when it produces water in the north. Within Kan there is true fire that floats. Zhen as wood hexagram with the solid lower lines produces the fire of the south as Li, that floats. The true water within Li causes it to sink. Medicinally Lead as Metal sinks but then manifesting fire it then floats. Mercury associated with wood floats but then manifesting water it then sinks.
In the Yijing , it is said, “Qian and Kun –– are they not the gates of the Yi ?” 《易》曰: “ 乾坤其《易》之門耶? ”Qian [Heaven] is a thing of yang, and Kun [Earth] is a thing of yin. 乾,陽物也;坤,陰物也。 When yin and yang are divided, the gates of xuan-pin will close and open. Zaohua is born from this; the sacred work emerges from this. 陰陽分,則玄牝之門一闔一闢,而造化於是乎生,聖功於是乎出矣。(Professor William Clarke Hudson II,) University of Virginia.
this third element is the central one, the Mysterious Pass (*xuanguan), represented for instance by the intention (*yi) in the pair body and spirit....He repeatedly states that the only necessary thing is the Mysterious Pass, equated with the precosmic and transcendent particle of light and more important than the practices themselves." Isabelle Robinet. This is known as the Mysterious Female. This refers to the way of immortality, which exists within the Mysterious Female. Mystery is Heaven which, in humans, becomes the nose… As for Heavenly food, people take in the five qi101 through the nose, and store it in the heart/mind. The five qi are pure – they subtly transform into jing and [shen] spirit, intelligence, speech, and the five natures. The ghosts102 of Heaven are known as the cloudsouls. The cloudsouls [Hun soul] are masculine. Entering and exiting through the nose, they communicate with Heaven; this is why the nose is called Mysterious… [Breathe] in an unbroken thread, as if to conserve [the breath]" Yangxing yanming lu 養性延命錄(Records of Cultivating Innate Nature and Extending Life, hereafter YXYML) (Tang Dynasty compilation of early alchemy meditation aka yangsheng)...knowledge is limitless.
Ji Kang 嵇康 says: To [plainly] desire without calculating forethought is a movement of one’s xing. [But] to first become aware of something and then to radiate feeling is a function of knowing (zhi 智). When the xing moves, the desire is equal to the thing encountered, and when it is satisfied, there is no additional movement. But knowing seeks on the basis of feeling, and even when exhausted, it is unable to stop. Thus the problems of the world are always to be found in knowing, not in the stirrings of xing. ...YXYML: If one can let the heart/mind roam in emptiness and stillness,111 cease thought112 and not act,113 ingest primal qi114 in the early morning,115 regularly practice daoyin 導引116 A Preface to the Records of Nourishing Inner Nature and Extending Life (Yangxing yanming lu xu 養性延命錄序)
It can be said that the ancestral cavity is the mysterious entrance that humanity must pass through during self-cultivation, but the mysterious entrance is not inside the body, and the ancestral cavity is not outside the body. When the disposition of fire does not flare, then the dragon can be controlled and possessed. One can then obtain the time of lead. Therefore it is said: “If you don’t amass mercury, how can you seek lead? If you don’t subdue the dragon, how can you tame its tiger?” Xing ming gui zhi, 1615
Dr Andreas Schöter: Yi is the cause of movement as the "tone held in the mind": "The term yi 意 carries two distinct, but related meanings; the first is “idea" and the second is “intent"; it is the second sense that is of relevance here. The character itself is composed of two parts. The lower part is "in 心 which means “mind-heart", the two concepts being closely related in Chinese thought0 this is the domain where all mental activity originates. The upper part of the character is yin 音 , which means “tone" or “sound"..."In traditional Chinese medicine yi 意 and zhi . are both aspects of a larger capacity called shen 6 , meaning “spirit"
And so the Void or wuji is yinyang: Quote
Its Yang half corresponds to the inner line of Kan ☵ (True Lead), and is typically represented by the celestial stem wu 戊. Its Yin half corresponds to the inner line of Li ☲ (True Mercury), and is represented by the celestial stem ji 己. Being found within both ingredients of the Elixir, Soil stands for their fundamental unity, and enables them to conjoin.
If (essential) nature is still, the incorporeal (HUN soul) lies hidden to let the element of wood return to its source. p. 31-2
“…for if spirit wanders outside, vitality will scatter to become generative fluid the exhaustion of which leads to death.” p. 83
“While sitting in meditation the practiser should never…3, look at external objects, for there the spirit wanders thereby harming the incorporeal soul (hun)” p. 117
“However if he can unite the element of metal (male) with that of wood (female) and the sun and the moon in one place….he will see the light of true vitality in front of his original cavity of spirit which will then hold it to prevent it from running away; the longer it is held the brighter it will be. When it becomes stable it reveals the successful union of the dragon and tiger (i.e. the female and male vital breaths).” p. 72
"the element of fire in spirit goes down to scorch the element of water in the lower abdomen which will be transformed into steam that will soar up linking the heart and lower abdomen. When he wakes up, and opens his eyes, spirit returns to his organ of sight, thereby disengaging the heart from the lower abdomen which will not reunite even if he starves for a week.” p. 82
So the liver qi needs to return to the lower tan tien but when the eyes open, instead, the liver qi goes to the heart. Thereby keeping the wood away from its source - and therefore True Vitality aka True Mercury aka True Yin can not develop.
For the death of the earthly heart exposes the moonlight of (essential) nature which is always screened by the dust of passions so long as the mortal mind is allowed to exist. ...
So the Moonlight is from the YANG QI of heaven as metal.
The Sun light as evil fire is from the Yin qi as Wood of the Hun yin soul.
Metal is also Passion and in the Water. So the Metal has to first be returned to the Fire to change the Earth Heart (wood) into Heaven.
Most practisers fail in their training because they do not know how
to control this fire which intensifies the very
passions which they intend
to cut off.
So when you return the metal to the heart it then easily reverses back to an earthly heart.
So the fire has to descend via water to store the Yuan Qi in the lower tan tien.
Seven kinds of fire, derived from spirit, to transform the generative force into vitalityWhen the heart is in excess it will over-act upon the lungs...With inner fire soaring up in his body, his (essential) nature is replaced by his heart so that desires and passions fill his being. So HEAVEN as Essential nature is fire and metal while Earthly Heart is Wood as yin qi.
inner fire is yang qi as metal in the water. So it gets pulled up to the Fire
going out the Eyes as the Hun Soul via the wood yin qi.
By ‘shifting’ is meant arousing the inner fire so that both outer and inner fires act on each other in order to enlarge all obstructed psychic channels and clear them of obstructions. Since positive fire [yang qi] is stronger than generative force [yin qi], it drives the latter into all parts of the body to remove all impurities thus preventing the development of ailments.
The bifurcated souls were also united in Te in alchemical practice. In this quote from the Quanzhen manual, Understanding Reality ( 悟真篇 Wu Zhen Pian), the practitioner of internal alchemy is told to understand the principles of the “real knowledge” of Tao. The “earthly soul” or po pairs with water metal to generate yang within yin; the “heavenly soul” or hun pairs with red mercury to generate yin within yang. These combinations initiate transformation, the cycling of yin and yang energies in a meditative realm to produce the elixir (immortal fetus). When yin and yang harmonize (“the dragon and tiger submit”), then “[t]he husband governs the wife, the wife obeys the husband” and “virtue [Te] is great”. The harmony of yin and yang in Te bring eternal life, “equal to heaven and earth”. (Quoting Understanding Reality ch. 10 commentary in Cleary, Thomas, The Taoist Classics Vol. 2, Boston: Shambhala, c. 1996, pp. 55-6.)
- Take a good hold on the true lead, and seek attentively, do not let
yourself pass the time taking it easy. Just use the earthly soul to
capture the red mercury; naturally there will be the heavenly soul to
govern the water metal. It could be said that when the path is lofty the
dragon and tiger submit; one might say that when virtue is great ghosts
and sprites are respectful. Once you know life is eternal, equal to
heaven and earth, vexations have no way to rise in the mind anymore.
Quoting Understanding Reality ch. 10 in Cleary, Thomas, The Taoist Classics Vol. 2, Boston: Shambhala, c. 1996, p. 55.
The external Sun (left eye) is wood from the heart while the internal Sun is the Cavity of the Dragon (the lower tan t'ien as yin qi).
The external moon (right eye) is metal from the lower abdomen while the internal Moon is the cavity of the Tiger (the upper tan tien as yang qi).
when generative force is full (metal yang qi) it rises up to unite with yin qi (essential nature)
