Latest Windows 10 Bug Breaks USB Printers – Microsoft Says It’s Working on a Fix
Oops - I was up all night. I think I found the proper download now... or Microsoft did?
So it says there is an update of just THIS patch:
kb458678 which is to fix the printer that Bill Gates' gang broke yesterday. haha.
Yeah says "pending download" - so now I just wait I guess?
I actually tried to change the active hours - thinking that would speed up the download?
Not sure...
Turn off auto-restart for updates during active hours prevents automatic restart during active hours.
I suppose this is the setting I have - but it's not clear. OK I'll change it and start over again
OK changed my "active hours" to 6 pm to midnight. And then hit "resume updates" after hitting "pause updates" again. This seemed to have kick started it again. Now it's "checking for updates." We'll it ACTUALLY START UPDATED!!
It would be wonderful if they had a "start updates" button. Oh well.
Like what if you really want an update as soon as you hit that "start update" button. Wouldn't that be nifty? Instead they complicate it with windows of time when they can NOT update and then "pending" updates... and "pausing" updates... but NO START UPDATE NOW button!?!
They should have a WE BROKE YOUR PRINTER update button.
Ok so the download is still "pending" - not sure why it's so slow. As for the "fix" - reading the article - stating if you power the USB for the printer INDEPENDENT of the computer then it should bypass the glitch.
My generator has a USB port - four of them. Hopefully it's powerful enough to power the print. Should be - I think one of the ports is two amps.
So now we just WAIT for the download to kick in? And how long do we wait before trying out the generator patch?
Microsoft says users can work around this problem by connecting a powered-on USB printer before starting Windows, which may not be practical for laptop users.
Really? Everyone needs a portable USB generator of course!!
I think the "Pending" meant they wanted me to restart the computer to launch the updates? Maybe?
NO!! Still says "pending" - hmm. I must have some secret decoder ring turned off or something.
Ok so now I "copied" the download info to try to paste it onto the interwebs to download from there. SUDDENLY windows jumps into active download status! Crazy.
It just said DOWNLOADING NOW yet now it says "pending" again and 0%.
I'll give it a half hour. If no change then I plug into the portable generator at 2.1 amps usb power for the printer.
So the "featured" package download is now 70% getting ready but the specific printer fix download is below it and still "pending." Frustrating.
At least it's a change. I wonder what happens after it "gets ready."? Does it finally want to download? I already downloaded this "package feature" update. I want the specific "patch" to fix the printer!!
So I put together the new Greenworks 40 volt weed wacker - which was way harder to assemble than the lawn mower (that comes totally pre-assembled except for the upper handles). So the Chinese translation says a Phillips screwdriver when in fact it was a STAR screw driver. oops. I had about eight Phillips - my whole set - plus the drill bits. Then I had STAR drill bits luckily. haha.
So I tried out the Weed wacker - the "spool" is the tricky part. I didn't really scrutinize the directions. To replace the spool requires pulling out each strands and twisting the top half to 90 degrees or something. Not exactly sure - then also getting the right size nylon.
So otherwise this thing seems solid and ready for action! So now I have two chargers and three batteries - two batteries at six amphours each and one at three amp hours. I have a - hold one - one of those is five amp hours I think. I'm gonna double check.
OK so then I have two more batteries at six amp hours on the way.
So plenty of power to have charging while I'm using up power.
And so then I checked the update - it was the SAME at 70%. So I copy and pasted it into the interwebs - and it said to download it you have to go back and do what I already was doing. So then I just restarted it again and it jumped up to... 76% !!! Still "getting ready."
Wow - slowest download in the world - to fix the printers of billions?
maybe that's why it's so slow?!!
OK that was a 3 amp hour not a five amp hour. So Two batteries at three amp hours and one battery at six amp hours. I should have a six amp hour and a five amp hour on the way. ALL of them at 40 volts.
