So I sent him a Lee Smolin talk on how time is real. Even though I took the SAME class that Lee Smolin also took as his first physics class - quantum mechanics from Herbert J. Bernstein - for me to think that time is not real is almost absurd. My focus was music training - so of course I assumed that time was primary to reality, through the intense process of listening.
So Dr. Smolin has been focused on a revolution in physics whereby time is real (contrary to Einstein's claim time is an illusion based on the "block universe."
For example in this talk from 2013 - Smolin uses global warming as a case study of why time needs to be real
You can see the influence of Bernstein there - since Professor Bernstein led an interdisciplinary research group focused on environmental superfund cleanup among other issues, while he maintained his quantum mechanics focus. This is similar to how Dr. Vandana Shiva did her Ph.D. on quantum nonlocal physics but focused her career on ecological activism.
So when I looked up his latest papers - sure enough!
So he's proposing a quantum biology computer fusion.
cosmological time is a quantum observable that does not commute with other quantum operators essential for the definition of cosmological states, notably the cosmological constant.http://leesmolin.com/scientific-papers/
We examine the de Broglie-Bohm pilot wave theory as a well developed example of a realistic theory. ...In the proposed version of the pilot wave theory, the particle is guided by a combination of advanced and retarded waves. The resulting account for quantum physics seems to have greater heuristic power, it demands less damage to intuition, and moreover provides some general hints regarding spacetime and causality. This is the first of two papers. In the second [1] we show that, in the context of an explicit model, retrocausality, with respect to an effective, emergent spacetime metric, can coexist with a strict irreversibility of causal processes. So de Broglie's Law of Phase Harmony returns.... with reverse time! Not only is time real but it can be reversed....
cosmological time is a quantum observable that does not commute with other quantum operators essential for the definition of cosmological states, notably the cosmological constant. This is inspired by properties of a measure of time—the Chern–Simons time—and the fact that in some theories it appears as a conjugate to the cosmological constant, with the two promoted to non-commuting quantum operators...the Universe may be “delocalised” in time: it does not know the time,Nonlocal noncommutative time
So it's funny that even though I got no response from Professor Lee Smolin - he co-authors with Professor Stephon Alexander (whose book I reviewed and promoted) on music and physics and then he promotes the Law of Phase Harmony (revamped of course)....
Yep - pretty awesome.
