Toshiba DVD player DC adapter secrets? with pin inside of plug but only at car voltage? 5.5mm x 3.3mm plug with center pin

I just tried ordering some cords - whole sale - but the plug did not have the pin inside! Dang.

I don't know what that's called. I'll try find out.

My goal is to power this DVD player directly via the bicycle. But if I have to use the Chafon generator battery/inverter instead then that's ok.

Right now I am using the AC adapter but if I can do the DC directly that I will save a 20% power conversion from DC to AC.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Car-Adapter-For-Toshiba-MEDC01AX-Auto-DC12V-Power-Cord-Supply-Charger-DVD-Player-/123269954909

So then I ordered a DC adapter but it was not from this company! I hope it has the pin inside!!

OK so this is what I was concerned about - the DC power will not be limited - going into the DVD battery pack....

I found these two comments about this DVD player:

to disconnect battery anytime want to charge thru cig. lighter in car.
This is not clear - because "charge" implies charging the battery - not powering the DVD player.

and
Don't use the battery if you have an outlet to plug the adapter in, in your house. If you use it with the battery....on camping trips or in your vehicle, make sure you use the car adapter/charger for the battery. You can't-plug the player directly into the vehicle.
So this implies that if you use the DC adapter then use it WITH the battery.

Both these comments are WRONG. oops.

You charge up the battery via the AC power - not the car adapter.

good thing I'm reading the manual - pdf link

So the question is about the voltage needed - does it HAVE to be a car voltage? Or can it just be 12 volts.  Car voltage is over 13 volts.

So this means the AC power cord limits it to 1.5 amps but NOT the DC adapter!

Nothing in there - it just calls it a VEHICLE ADAPTER - which implies the volts do have to be around 13 or greater....

When connecting with car power (cigarette lighter) adaptor, be sure the input voltage of the adaptor is identical with car voltage.
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Toshiba-cigarette-SD-P1000-adapter-SD-P101SKN-SD-P1400-lighter-Replacement-Adapter-SD-P1400SN-WennoW-Portable-DVD-Car-SD-KP19SN-MEDC01AX-By-power/465454226

So this company is insisting this adapter ONLY works with the car voltage. Dang! So I can't use it just from 12 volts? It has to be about 13 plus volts? For example my car DC inverter needs the Car voltage for it to work - NOT a lower voltage....

This claim though is with a plug that does NOT look like it has the magical "pin inside" secret!

I'm not sure this is the correct plug - even though they claim it is.

Here is a Toshiba 12 volt charger and look - NONE of the plugs have the magical pin inside secret!

So here is the one I ordered.

Let's see if I can get the original website.

Nope - their website is down! Not encouraging.

So that is the Toshiba Portable DVD power battery charger it's set to 12 volts!!

So that means I should be able to use the 12 volt output of the Chafon generator to power the DVD player directly - via the car adapter. I don't think it HAS to be the "car voltage" of 13 plus volts (as with a DC car inverter).

This one also just says 12 volts

So the real issue is the AMPS going into the DVD battery being too great.

How many amps is that battery anyway?

OH wait - it's a 7.4 volt battery!!! NO wonder. It's 3.6 amps.

OK THAT explains it!

They should have put that in the manual - so people understand the real issue as to why the battery can't be connected when the 12 volt adapter is used. It's the voltage difference.

I suppose it's both volts and amps.

The manual though just says amps as the problem.

OEM offer

A third OEM offer - pre-owned

OK this confirms that just because it is MEDCO1AX does NOT mean it's for the specific Toshiba model needed - these are not compatible models.

Hence the special photo of the secret "pin inside" that I first posted.

So I have the
 SDP94SKN

And is that listed?

  SD-KP19SN SD-P1000 SD-P101SKN SD-P1400 SD-P1400SN SD-P1500 SD-P1600 SD-P1600SN SD-P1700SN SD-P1750SN SD-P1850SN SD-P1900 SD-P2000 SD-P2600 SD-P2600SN SD-P2700SN SD-P2800SN SD-P2900SN SD-P71SKN SD-P91SKN SDKP74SWN SDP74S SDP74SWN SDP75SWN SDP93SWN SDP94S SDP94SKN SDP94SWN SDP95S SDP95SWN

I'm still skeptical that the plug has the "pin inside" - it's not OEM...

I think I found out the SECRET!!

This is the ONLY male plug with a pin inside it - that I can find....

OK I'll go try measure the size....

OH YES!!!! THis is it! Cracked the code.

I'll measure just to make sure.

 Here's another one!

This HAS to be it! I can find only TWO products of this type - and none at the Minnesota electronics distributor Digi-Key (5th largest electronic components distributor in the US)...

Only a $1.10!!!!

This is what I need.

fourth one...

Complies with Electronic Industries Association of Japan (EIAJ)
RC-5320 Standards.
That fourth one is in NY and says they are not shipping to my region! Would not let me pay! Hilarious. Maybe it's the virus!

OK I just ordered this.
