Due to the Homeless Crisis, the West Coast of the US is FORBIDDEN to outlaw camping on public land! As of April 2019

Wow - I truly had not heard of this ruling. So when the cop asked me if I had a place to sleep - and I said yes I rented a room in a house - I had no idea that technically I was making my "nap" at the University (during spring break) ILLEGAL. http://www.abajournal.com/news/article/full-9th-circuit-wont-review-decision-barring-prosecution-of-homeless-for-sleeping-on-public-property the court said,

“as long as there is no option of sleeping indoors, the government cannot criminalize indigent, homeless people for sleeping outdoors, on public property, on the false premise they had a choice in the matter.”

Well that's only in the 9th Circuit - so the West Coast. It has not gone to the Supreme Court yet I suppose. My dad was buddies with an 8th circuit federal judge who is very conservative. I am kind of surprised at this ruling and glad to have read of it. I didn't think that applied to "tents" though. I can understand "sleeping" - but I would think allowing tents would still be illegal. That was one of the judge's dissenting view - that there was already a ruling that "camping" on public land was illegal unless specifically allowed. Apparently this OVERRULED that camping law! amazing.

So this is from the "dissenting judge" opinion.

So this dissenting view points out that camping as illegal had been upheld:

and so.... AMAZINGLY!!

But the District Court ruled in favor of the homeless!

And so what can not be ruled illegal on the West Coast?
