Twice the Head Room of traditional Cabin Tents!: 1985 Vintage Old Wenzel Curvilinear Cabin Screen/Tent meditation Earthing

So I'm not sure the "instructions" are for the same size tent. I just laid the tent out in the backyard - and it's 7 feet wide by 9 feet long. But I think maybe this tent is extra tall. They don't make tents like this anymore. I think it has STEEL poles!! The center part is very tall.

I read FREE Craig's List this morning and it had been posted for an hour as a free curb pickup - First Come First Serve. I printed out directions and left - but that took 15 minutes. Then I drove - that took another 45 minutes. So after two hours - I got the tent!! The owners were a very nice older couple selling and moving from their house. I said, "I better leave before someone shows up all disgruntled. First come first serve!"

So I'm gonna try to savor this experience. Let me take a photo of the tent outside before that chipmunk starts munching on it.

So it does not look as big as the "instructions" photo.

Now let's see what this lists for online. Obviously it's discontinued. Must be from the 1970s!! 80s at the latest.

So this is the "closest" current Wenzel tent model - the Klondike. You can see a close similarity but still not the same. And this sells for about $200.

But that's from cheap sweatshop slave labor abroad - while this FREE vintage Wenzel could have even been assembled in the US - that's how old it is!! Yep - it states: MADE IN U.S.A.

It's pretty much the same material - it's nylon with a rubberized floor.

So if this an "8 person tent" Klondike model - the center should get up to 6.5 feet tall!! That's what it looks like in the photo of the instructions.

Now I'll go set it up and take another photo. Amazingly I can not FIND a photo of this tent online - that's how Vintage it is!!

The Tent just DOUBLED in Size!!

OK so I didn't realize the "screen porch" half of the tent was still folded up - so I don't even think it has a "floor." But hey - if it keeps out the skeeters then that will be awesome. This thing really is an 8 person "family" or cabin tent!!

Definitely a $200 tent.

I measure it at 9 feet by 13 feet or 117 square feet.

This is an old tent but in very good condition. I guess that's why I can't find it online! I think any other owners of this tent would have trashed it by now.

So here is another Vintage Wenzel tent - a different style but made of the same materials - and the asking price on ebay is $275

Another Vintage of the same model is from the 1960s - I mean that "cabin" model - NOT the model I have, the Klondike model....

Yeah I just can't find it online. Ah the key is to search OLD - not vintage. Gotcha.

This tent's so old it doesn't even have a stylish "model" name.

yeah the poles are aluminum - I just "squeezed" it real hard and it bent a bit.

NOPE - it was made in Korea actually - sewn there.

popular mechanics Tent article (ad) - google books link

The Los Angeles Times from Los Angeles, California on May 12, 1985 ...

May 12, 1985 - 129.99 -10.00 Wenzel mail-in rebate 99.99 Your final cost Wenzel Prescott 8x10' tent with Curvilinear design for maximum head room. Sleeps ...
So this tent I have is BIGGER so would have sold for more - and $100 was a lot more money in 1985.

So there you have it - the "image" of the tent in 1985 - but that's the smaller Prescott model - with no screen extension.

Well that's really all I can find so far. I'm gonna put these thing together now.

OK so I was just asked - what am I going to use this for?

Turns out that I had been dreading actually CUTTING out the floor of my old Kelty Camp Cabin tent - so that I could meditate against the Earth while getting the Earth yin qi energy against my skin while ALSO having a screened in tent. But guess what? The screen does not have a floor!!! PERFECT!!!!

OK let's take a closer look at the inside.

Plenty of height space to enter into the actual "cabin" part of the tent.

Obviously this was just a "demo" set up - so I'm even missing stakes on the screen part - and the stakes are not in all the way.

But perfect for meditation or showering/bathing!! EXACTLY what I had sent out to the Universe as needing!!

That's REAL camping! Because nowadays - even the "screens" have some kind of tent floor to them. Well most of the screens. It's ok - sometimes you want a floor - like for the Wilderness Lodge - but sometimes you REALLY WANT or even NEED direct Earthing or Grounding for meditation qigong Elixir Field energy.
