This is a fascinating essay by Zizek. I sent him my critique of his work, in 1996, and he replied with a postcard that it looked really interesting and he would get back to me. Then in 1997 he published his book The Plague of Fantasies that was largely a "strawman" attack on my argument. He never mentioned me by name, of course - who was I but a lowly independent researcher! haha. But his critique was very specific to the areas I had focused on - music theory, parapsychology and ecofeminism.
And so Zizek returns, once again, to these same topics more or less in the above essay. The problem is that Zizek does not have a deep enough understanding of science and mathematics. So he keeps trying to claim there is a "resonance" between the outer symbolic traumas and the inner psychic traumas and so psychology provides a means to heal the "unknown knowns" - things that our subconscious knows but that our conscious mind refuses to acknowledge. Most specifically he is stating that humans suffer from the death drive as a culture even though this does not manifest on a personal transformation level - we can make no "one to one" connection between the social traumas and our personal psychological subconscious traumas (repressed guilt, for example).
What Zizek is really talking about here, mathematically, is a "logarithmic singularity." And so science and math breaks down. But then he says it is precisely this freedom of science that causes the social trauma of the "unknown unknowns" that have to be confronted - the excuse that Rumsfeld made for genocide in Iraq. So in other words we have to confront our "unknown knowns" in order to properly confront our "unknown unknowns." But he says this is never possible and so trauma always has to occur and it has no deeper symbolic meaning.
And so he gives the example then of movies - saying that a proper movie will have a static image of the trauma but instead of silence - the sound of the trauma would continue. And he says this expresses the real truth of Platonic philosophy - that the visual image is the Real of reality as the traumatic stain that can not be symbolically processed (by the left brain reason) while the empirical truth is the sound that continues as time.
So the problem with Zizek is that he doesn't realize that Plato is the cause of the whole ecological crisis to begin with from Plato using the wrong mathematics from the wrong music theory! I have gone into this in detail. Also Zizek doesn't realize that indeed it is possible to predict the truth - and that the original human culture relied on this ability. Instead this is what Zizek states:
the ultimate big Other, nature itself with its pattern of regular rhythms, the ultimate reference of order and stability.This is Zizek psychologically projecting his Western bias of the wrong music theory!! In fact original sin of the Bible - that Zizek refers to as his source of truth - is from the Sumerian God Sin that was the Moon God - and the Moon god was based on the "divine lyre" as prophetic shamanic powers through right-brain dominance trance as total body transformation. So Zizek instead claims that...
(triumph of the feminine subjectivity over death)is a lie. But what he doesn't realize is that the Mother Goddess is not "subjectivity" - it is in fact sound as empirical time from the future! This is documented by science as the Law of Phase Harmony from noncommutative phase math. haha. I have gone into this math in detail elsewhere - so no need to repeat myself.
So Zizek claims that science can save us but he is relying on the wrong deductive framework of science. He says:
It is too short to attribute our disbelief in the catastrophe to the impregnation of our mind by scientific ideology, which leads us to dismiss the sane concerns of our common reason, i.e., the gut sense which tells us that something is fundamentally wrong with the scientific-technological attitude.Zizek completely underestimates the power of our 2nd brain, the gut, along with quantum biology of biophotons! He just simply had not studied science well enough. It is just like Einstein dismissing de Broglie's Law of Phase Harmony as being "too simple." In fact the Law of Phase Harmony was awarded a Ph.D. thesis precisely because Einstein said it contained the kernel of truth. But then Schroedinger took out the relativistic foundation of it and so when de Broglie tried to revamp his theory as a more simplistic "pilot wave" model aligned with Schroedinger's wave equation, then de Broglie's pilot wave was rejected at the Solvay Conference. This truth of science then got covered up as the "vanishing mediator" that Zizek loves to reference. haha. If only Zizek studied science more then he would realize that the nonwestern trance training ecofeminist parapsychology music spiritual healing energy is NOT the same as the New Age ideology he claims it is. haha. He is projecting his own Platonic philosophy of Freemasonic logarithmic music tuning "balance" onto nonwestern cultures.
