Without giving away the plot - what it really reminded me of was the Guardianship scam that is really really disturbing to me. The fact that total strangers are literally "legally" kidnapping elderly people and then selling off their assets and pocketing the money - and the kidnapped victims have no rights, no say about their new "life", etc. - it is truly straight out of some Communist slave society. And yet it exists in the U.S.!! We have developed such a Big Brother Big Pharma mass mind control culture that people are easily deemed to be "not normal" and so can be whisked away with no rights!
In other words if you go to see a doctor - it can be used against you, behind your back, without you knowing - to steal your money and your home!!

I remember reading Simone de Beauvoir's expose on how the elderly are treated in the U.S. - I found it to be shocking - left in essentially solitary confinement. I have heard of this happening to people - since it is the same age group of my relative whom I help out as a secondary caregiver.

Last years ruling by the State Supreme Court gave professional predators the right to end the life of disabled or elderly individuals, solely on demand. Ignoring state statute which required the professional guardian to return to the court to seek permission to pull life support, the Supreme Court intentionally disregarded that statute and claimed that an earlier statute regarding health care, and powers of attorney somehow implied or could be interpreted to give the predator this power. Clearly the statutes say otherwise.O.k. that was 3 years ago - so I clicked on her blog link to get something more recent. Sure enough.
Tammy's son Jimmy Suski has been isolated from her at the behest of the guardian. Apparently, Tammy, demanding that the neglect and abuse of her brain injured son stop immediately and that proper care be given to him, made someone mad!
To add insult to the injury, the neglect and abuse caused by the lack of care and concern at medical facilities that ocurred after Jimmy's injury was, shifted to Tammy. She has been labeled as an abuser although the records clearly show the bed sores, lost weight, and terrible condition of her son was the result of mismanagement and lack of care by professionals at several facilities.

The concept of guardianship, parens patriae, originated centuries ago in England. It gave the government the authority to take responsibility for people who were deemed insane. Beginning in the 1980s in America statutes evil which attempted to deal with individuals who were either homeless or otherwise totally unable to care for themselves and who posed the threat of either violence or just an eyesore in a community. In the late 1980s professional guardianship evolved primarily in South Florida and eventually spread throughout the entire country and grew to the point where it now ensnares not people who are insane or threat to the community, but wealthy people who may be suffering from a range of illnesses which might just be temporary but whose lifetime accumulation of assets is an overwhelmingly tempting low hanging fruit for unscrupulous guardians and lawyers and the judges in front of whom they practice. It is now a national industry.
The process depends on an alliance of judges, lawyers, guardians, banks, doctors, psychologists, social workers and so many others that all benefit from the ability to legally take power and lord over almost any family or individual with total impunity and the aegis of the court.
The fact that records in probate are sealed make it impossible for any meaningful statistics or research to occur.
