The "theme" of the movie revolved around a minor third - with some sliding harmonics - which made it a nice blues type of refrain. The tone set, as a horror movie, was a kind of anguish - like get use to it and somehow learn to get beyond it.
Then - again this review is a complete spoiler - sorry - but my approach is analytic and so I have no respect for the normal standards. haha. So when the young pretty wife is shown for the first time to be noticeably pregnant then also for the first time the music showcases a tritone - being the most dissonant interval. This is of course foreshadowing the plot - as the review I read said how the biggest challenge was how to have a baby when alien monsters hunt via sound.
And so the heroine of the film is a young lady, the daughter, who is deaf. So a very nice feature of the movie, which again was noted in a review, is that the perspective switches to total silence, from her awareness. This is something very fascinating to me - as usually point of view in a film is based on the camera, obviously - but also I worked as a relay operator, typing for the deaf community. I had never really imagined what it was like to be deaf and so this added to the fascination.
So then the father is trying to activate her hearing with home-made hearing aids and says - try this one, I have increased the frequency. But part of her anger at her dad, is, as her brother explains, she blames herself for the death of their younger brother - and part of it seems to be - what I would think to be the inability to accept her deafness, as her character, instead of something that needs to be "fixed." Anyway - we are then exposed to the truth that this higher frequency is able to resonate with the hearing of the blind aliens - and drive them away.
But not before the two siblings fall into a corn silo bin and start drowning - and the sound of the metal door collapsing, attracts the alien hunter. And we know this is going to be bad because the metal door starts singing or I mean swinging - at a very noticeable tritone harmonic! Back and forth - the Tritone nice and loud for maybe half a dozen swings. And just when the monster is about to kill the siblings - the father distracts and attracts the monster....
So then the primal scream in the movie - done by two males - becomes a suicide scream, causing the monster to attack them. And then - in the end the deaf daughter finally puts two and two together and she realizes the reason she had not been killed before was from her hearing aid - and she realizes this partly due to reading the research her dad has posted in the basement - where she had never been allowed before. And so she uses this high frequency to stun the monster and the mom shoots it dead.
But the gun shot then attracts the hoarde of monsters - they see approaching through the surveillance cameras - and so the young lady daughter is signaled by her mom to do what she did again - to put the hearing aid with the high frequency up against the loud speaker and broadcast system - so it is amplified outside. And then the mom gets her gun ready.
Now the key point of this movie is suspension of disbelief. Can a person watching the plot actually believe that her hearing aid would stun and damage and drive away the monsters? We know of course that ultrasound is now sold to drive away mice and mosquitoes - and it turns out that it is a lower frequency ultrasound then the frequency of ultrasound in natural nonwestern music tuning as the Hypersonic Effect that increases alpha brain waves and serotonin levels. I think it is 32 K hertz as the cut off frequency - and Gamelan harmonics go up to 100 K hertz.
But the real secret that makes this film believable - for me at least - is that as the research of Hameroff's collaborators have shown - ultrasound is the strongest amplification of the microtubules of the neurons - as quantum consciousness. So although it's not well known, the research on tinnitus proved that actually the highest pitch we hear externally will resonate the brain as a whole as ultrasound. And so it makes sense that the deaf heroine actually could hear this higher frequency - since it would activate her microtubule neurons in her auditory cortex....and also it makes sense that the alien monsters would get stunned and driven away. Because the activation of their neurons is based on frequency - just as cell phones damage the brain due to the frequency resonance of the dipole of water (just as a microwave oven works based on frequency). So the standard science claim is that cell phones don't have enough amplified energy to cause brain cancer - but that disregards the quantum biology frequency resonance. The same then would be true with this hearing aid weapon.
For me - this movie definitely, as the review claimed, changed my sensation of hearing - it heightened my awareness of hearing; Especially since I was able to analyze the music harmonics of the soundtrack vis a vis the plot of the movie. But again the perspective of the deaf young lady was fascinating - when her view point would switch to a silent reality - except of course when her hearing aid got activated. The yogis make the claim, as I have cited, that in fact all the senses are first acquired through the perception of hearing or listening. This is very fascinating since quantum biology is now corroborating this - stating how the sense of smell is actually based on "listening" to frequency.
The question remains "what" is listening to the frequency of smell? For example I can not smell myself - unless I am in REM theta brain waves - like the first breath upon waking from sleep - or from falling asleep. But you will notice that this moment of awareness of smell from theta brain waves, as waking REM vision - also has the perception of inner hearing. So suddenly your external breathing is very loud since you are suddenly hearing your breathing from inside your brain, as being amplified. Or I should clarify - when we are asleep we don't normally hear the sounds we make but then just as we wake up we hear our sleeping sounds as a deeper amplified breathing, along with the smell from sleep - and also a flash of our dream state. But then the next breath - we are in beta wave left brain dominance and suddenly - the smell is gone, the loud breathing sound is gone - or we are less aware of it - and we easily forget our dreams.
