The High Protein Diet: Bromelain supplements to hydrolyze a high protein Pea powder diet via biopeptide cleavage

Organic dry pea (Pisum sativum L.) biofortification for better human health

OK looks like I need to get Bromelain tablets to mix in and let it ferment. Fascinating. So one half  of a Bromelain enzyme a day. Not bad.  So I'll mix one capsule for a day's worth of pea powder. hahaha.
Protein Hydrolysate of Green Peas with Bromelain (PHGPB) is a bioactive peptide compound created by breaking down green pea protein using the pineapple stem enzyme bromelain.  Bromelain is a proteolytic enzyme (protease) derived from pineapples that breaks peptide bonds in proteins,...  Bromelain is a protein-digesting enzyme mixture derived from the stem, fruit, and juice of the pineapple plant. It has a centuries-long history of being used to treat medical ailments, primarily throughout Central and South America.

peptide derived from the bromelain hydrolysis of Indonesian green peas proteins (PHGPB, 25.71% protein, 9.28% fat) showed the lowest levels of urea and creatinine in cisplatin-induced female Wistar rats ().... Bromelain 10% (w/v) was added to each solution () and then left for 72 hr () on a stirrer at room temperature (25–30 °C) ().... Mixing bromelain with pea powder to create a protein hydrolysate typically requires 1 to 4 hours of reaction time at an optimal temperature of 50°C to 55°C (122°F–131°F) and a neutral-to-slightly-alkaline pH (pH 6.8 to 8.0), though some cold or room-temperature protocols extend this up to 24–72 hours.... Legumin or vegetable casein is commonly found in peas, lentils, vetches, and other legumes; it is soluble in water, dissolves in very weak acids and alkalis, and is not coagulated by heat (). This fact shows that peas possess a good nutritional content for a balanced diet and may even prevent degenerative diseases, such as type II diabetes and cardiovascular disease ()... bromelain enzyme concentration of 10% yields the highest DH in Nyamplung seed protein (Calophyllum inophyllum) (). The lowest levels of urea and creatinine that were validated by high super oxide dismutase (SOD) activity and atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) level were obtained in the 200 mg/day PHGPB treatment.
Googlescholar says it's not just "protein powder" but a "high protein" diet.
"Kidneys from diseased rats given pea protein compared with casein were more enlarged and had higher fluid content and cyst volumes, despite growing better and having lower serum creatinine and renal chemokine receptor 2 levels, and similar levels of renal fibrosis. Conclusion: Not all plant proteins are equally protective in experimental kidney disease and associated cardiac hypertrophy."

oops!

a high-protein diet (protein comprising 25% of calories) increased eGFR by 3.8 ml/min per 1.73 m2 after 6 weeks compared with a lower protein diet (protein comprising 15% of calories)., In the early stages, glomerular hyperfiltration occurs as a rise in GFR, in proteinuria, or both, but may result in a loss of kidney function over time

The Effects of High-Protein Diets on Kidney Health and Longevity

Kidney therapeutic potential of peptides derived from the bromelain hydrolysis of green peas protein

we found that protein hydrolysate of green peas origin of Indonesia hydrolysed by bromelain (PHGPB) showed improve kidney function in cisplatin-induced nephropathy rats. In this study, we investigated the effect of PHGPB to obtain effective dose that exerts a therapeutic effect on chronic kidney disease (CKD) based on reducing urea and creatinine levels and to elucidate its mechanism of action.
. Higher PHGPB dose corresponds to better effect on kidney function by increasing antioxidant activity and ANP levels in gentamycin-induced Wistar rats.

A Canadian study stated that the hydrolysate protein of yellow peas (Pisum sativum L.) alleviates high blood pressure and CKD. Pea protein hydrolysate (PPH) was used as a potential modulator of the renin–angiotensin system (RAS). PPH reduces blood pressure by increasing the levels of cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) in renal tissues (). Hydrolysate proteins are amino acid mixtures obtained from the degradation of hydrolyzed proteins using acids, bases, or proteolytic enzymes to produce peptides and small molecules with high solubility ().Enzymatic protein hydrolysis improves the function and nutrients of protein sources; it can contain large amounts of efficient peptides without toxic by-products or amino acids (, ).

Hydrolysis of green peas proteins produces antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and hypolipidemic peptides that can be used as supportive therapy in cardiovascular disease (). Such peptides also display antimicrobial, antihypertensive, immunomodulatory, and anticancer activities (, ).

Cleavage of protein polypeptide chains generates short-chain peptides, some of which could exhibit biological activities. Such cleavage, as a result of hydrolysis reactions, could occur during the natural digestion in human gastrointestinal tract but also could be achieved by food processing techniques such as enzymatic hydrolysis, microbial fermentation, and in vitro digestion simulation. For pea protein, the bioactivities of the resultant peptides, or hydrolysates, mainly include antioxidant, antimicrobial, antihypertensive, and antidiabetic characteristics as reported in recent works.

purified organic pea protein powder (such as that produced by PURIS) is separated from the hull and starch during processing, meaning it functions as a protein isolate rather than a hull fiber product. PURIS separates the components into distinct streams, offering pea protein isolates and separate organic pea hull fiber (OPF-Hulls) as entirely different ingredients. [1, 2]
Product Differences
  • PURIS Organic Pea Protein: Highly purified (over 80% protein content) with most fiber, starch, and hull components removed.
  •  Green peas (Pisum sativum) were hydrolyzed by bromelain from pineapple juice to obtain PHGPB.  Bromelain was isolated from pineapple juice (Ananas sativus)
