Minnehaha Academy praises Chet Holmgren as an alumni
Chet is the true X factor. If he’s giving them 20+ points with his rebounding and excellent rim protection they are unstoppable.
Minnehaha Academy's Chet Holmgren brings home the NBA trophy
Consistently getting 15-20+ points and 3 blocks a game with multiple 3s. He’s only going to get better
Minnehaha Academy's Chet Holmgren dominates NBA post-season 2025
Chet has the best shot blocking instincts and technical skills in the league.
I've never been into basketball but I have to admit watching Holmgren makes this game very exciting - he dominates in both defense and offense. At 7 feet 1 inch, height is obviously his key factor for success but he trained hard to develop all the top playing skills to accompany his height.
When I attended Minnehaha Academy it was very low key - considered not as upscale or expensive as Blake or Breck private schools (all three of them in Minneapolis or close by Minneapolis). Minnehaha was definitely the most religious of the three and my ancestors had history there with my grandfather being a preacher in the same denomination as Minnehaha Academy.
When I heard of MA (as we called it) having a top-ranked state basketball team that "recruited" top ranked players - I was intrigued! When I was there the singing choir was more important than the football team! The basketball team and other sports were not really noticed much although the soccer team was considered one of the best.
Still - obviously things had changed big time at MA.
Oklahoma City Thunder’s Chet Holmgren hosted a basketball camp at Minnehaha Academy on Tuesday, his former high school, a little over a week after becoming an NBA champion. KSTP Sports was there.
Holmgren’s No. 34 jersey was retired at Minnehaha Academy last January.

Following his senior season, Holmgren earned Gatorade National Player of the Year.
Holmgren was high school teammates with current Orlando Magic shooting guard Jalen Suggs. Suggs also has his No. 1 jersey retired at Minnehaha Academy last year.

In sixth grade, Holmgren began attending Minnehaha Academy, a Christian private school in Minneapolis. He stood 6 ft 2 in (1.88 m) at the time and was teammates with current Orlando Magic guard Jalen Suggs, whom he played alongside through high school.
I started MA at 7th grade....
In August 2019, Holmgren attracted national attention for crossing over NBA superstar Stephen Curry at Curry's own SC30 Select Camp.[8]
In a typical example the player heads up-court, dribbling the ball in (say) the left hand, then makes a wide step left with a head fake. If the defender is deceived, the player can then switch to dribbling with the right hand and surpass the defender. The crossover can allow the player an open jump shot or a clear path to the basket. Crossover is generally performed for space creation.
He was named Mr. Basketball USA, Gatorade National Player of the Year, Naismith Prep Player of the Year, Morgan Wootten National Player of the Year, a McDonald's All-American, and Minnesota Mr. Basketball.[12][13]
Recruiting
Entering his junior season, Holmgren had about 30 scholarship offers from college basketball programs.[14] In June 2020, after the reclassification of Jonathan Kuminga, he became the number one player in the 2021 class, according to ESPN.[10] On April 19, 2021, Holmgren announced his commitment and signed a National Letter of Intent to play college basketball for Gonzaga, following his former high school teammate Jalen Suggs.[4][15]

Chet Holmgren taking about making Minnesota a Basketball award home now
Almost the entire OKC Thunder organization just pulled up to Minnehaha Academy in Minnesota for the high school jersey retirement of Chet Holmgren.
The school MA was considered run down being over 100 years old but then there was a big natural gas explosion - and the school had to be rebuilt. So now it's brand-new but I've never been there since I graduated 36 years ago! hahahaha.
My graduating class was considered very rebellious as to be expected from Generation X.
Any time I go home, I get to play in front of family, old coaches, old teammates, I never take it for granted. It has gone full circle."
