$3 Clearance Water Pic stops Hornet from chewing through our roof eaves under the shingles!

Wow - I had quite the middle of the night Independence Day adventure! The gnawing sound in our roof turned into a buzzing wing sound when I banged on the precise spot on the ceiling. So I searched those two sounds together and AI produced a hornet. Not good!!

I knew I had to act fast before the roof got chewed through - the gnawing sound was LOUD and nonstop. Only it was pitch black and I had no insect spray. I watched a youtube vid on using Dawn soap - and I had dawn soap.

While looking for a spray bottle I saw the water pic I had just bought on clearance - two days before! It had a "plasticizer" smell and so I was scared to put those toxic chemicals in my gums. So I had put the Water Pic under the sink in the bathroom - thinking I could use it for an emergency....

And here the emergency was!!

Next I duct-taped the Water Pic with Dawn Soap - to an extendable duster rod. Then I put on thick clothes and then I took an old bath mat for a shower that I had saved up - with a hole cut in it for the drain area. I put that over my head and taped it on - to protect my face.

I could not see but I had a headlamp that went through the bath mat hole. I proceeded into the dark outside with the headlamp on - and turned on the Water Pic. I raised up the duster rod over the area I had heard the gnawing and buzzing noise....

Now - the problem was I could not see the direction of the Water Pic and I realized this halfway through so I changed the direction. After a couple minutes the DAWN soap was fully unloaded.

Finally to test the results - NO more gnawing sound! I couldn't believe it!!! Wow.

Previously I would bang and the gnawing would soon come back - the sound of a persistent animal. This time nothing!!!

It was the middle of the night and I wanted to go to sleep but I waited some more - and I waited again. Still no sound. Wow. I was amazed. Then it started to rain and any effects the Dawn soap would have had would be washed away...

So that was my experiment. No more sound in the morning and I couldn't see anything when I just looked up on the roof. But I have not gotten out a ladder yet and I don't plan on doing so. No gnawing sound is all the proof I need because it was a LOUD gnawing that kept me awake. Hearing your roof being eaten through is not a sound to sleep to.

Person tries to record the sound of the wasps chewing through their walls

I had this noise in my bedroom for 2 weeks. No clue what it was I thought it would stop with time. Now they chewed a hole in the ceiling the size of a nickel and are coming out of it! So my word of advice is if you hear this noise, don’t ignore it like I did.

chewing the drywall and using it for their nest. When they run out they're gonna start chewing through the wall/ceiling and come inside like they did in my house...
