Denis Noble debunking Richard Dawkins: Proteins are multi-tasking!

The genes and the proteins they create are immensely fluid! We know for example that the proteins can multi-task! You can have a protein that goes into a membrane and acts as a channel and the same protein can be an enzyme in a different context. Most proteins are like that. About 70% have got variable....

Denis Noble with his brother

There's been accretion of functional bits. In a complex protein there maybe seven or eight functional bits that can be used for that purpose or this purpose and they can be totally different! Different between controlling ions moving in and out of a membrane in a red cell or enabling Kinase to do the enzyme work that they may be doing. ...and that's true in one cell...

DNA does not self-replicate. It relies on the organism itself to be able to correct errors in the replication process....There's a boundary between the Soma and the Germline but it's a functional boundary. We know that control RNAs can just pass across that. ...Little vesicles of RNAs and control proteins cross that boundary - so Weissman Barrier is, I'm afraid, gone.

To be a physiologist, association can be zero and it [DNA] can be causal.
