As a kid I remember my mom making me and my sister chocolate cokes all the time. It was something she grew up drinking as a kid in the 1950’s. Her and her family would head downtown to the local drug store and sit at the counter and order chocolate cokes.
The City had to pass an ordinance to allow school dancing! Mom helped organize a petition drive that was signed by the city store owners, etc. when the school went on field trips...
We presented the city council...we turned our petitions in...it got put in the city ballot and passed overwhelming. And so from 10th grade on we had dances. The 10th grade for the first time had a prom with dancing.

The Silent Generation grew up in the chaos of war and the Great Depression. Fearing the turmoil faced in their youth, they played in-line, remaining silent as to not cause trouble. Such behaviors inspired their other name, the “traditionalists.”
The Silent Generation – born 1925-1945.
I guess my mom bucked the Silent Generation trend!!
