End of July Shiitake harvest - survived a serious rain storm with hail!

We had rain up at my Shiitake farm - the night before. I didn't check for rain during the day yesterday and so I got caught in a big hail storm - I covered the windshield with my sleeping bag! Visibility driving was down to 10 feet - going very slowly! Got up north and was greeted by the nocturnal Flicker - eating ants in the woods - or looking for them while hopping around the tent! They are a very fun bird because it sounds like some kind of dinosaur....

Also I saw two frogs - one on a pallet. I brought up another pallet but couldn't put it on my stack of pallets - with frog there sitting stoicly. So that's three frogs I've seen up north. I accidentally smashed a frog in the lawn mower a month or so ago...

hmmm.... So that rain from the night before did the trick on the shrooms! Still in very good condition too - no oxidation.

Then came home to discover the farm where I volunteer - was on the front page of the local corporate-state newspaper in the Twin Cities! So that was exciting news.

Wow - we also had a great oak tree Shiitake harvest here - from an inch and half rain storm a few days ago! So I am now up to 50 pounds harvested in mushrooms - approximately.

I took a break from soaking logs for next week since the mosquitoes were so thick from the rain a couple nights ago - wow - !! I was being swarmed and feisted on and I was tried from trying to survive the hail rainstorm with 60 mph gusts and flooding!
