A rare day of two full smiles from Hem Kaur Saroya: The young married WION EcoDoom ClimateTracker newscaster

I think this is actually the ONLY time I've seen her give a full smile! And of course she is trying to hide it since she was kind of laughing "at" her guest....

Her name is pronounced Heam Car SaRoy. Kaur is a Sikh reference to princess or lioness - a honorific term.

"Kaur" is recognized as “Princess” or "Spiritual Princess".

Saroya is a subcaste or clan... originated from Punjab that has a tonal language.  Maybe that's her husband's name though but then why the tonal prosody melodic speaking? haha.

Originally they were worshippers of the Snake-Garlanded form of Shiva.

So we get octaves sometimes in the prosody!

Another rare smile! Seriously - twice in one day - and yet these are the only two full smiles I've noticed - normally she tries to be serious.

Personally I think it's the Octave she sings on the word "doom" that launches her into bliss

I noticed that Hem regularly includes octaves in her intonation - this is a wonderful singing type of talking and so when I discovered her last name refers to a Punjab ancestry - where language is tonal - I thought that probably explains the different style of talking.

Three tones
Unusually for an Indo-Aryan language, Punjabi distinguishes lexical tones. Three tones are distinguished in Punjabi (some sources have described these as tone contours, given in parentheses): low (high-falling), high (low-rising), and level (neutral or middle).

Still Hem didn't do "ClimateTracker" news today - maybe she just got promoted out of that schtick and that's why she's extra smiley today? hahaha. No - she's still doing Climate Tracker - thanks WION for covering Eco-Doom daily!
