Hairy Rock Cress, formerly Arabis hirsuta, seems to grow just about anywhere and is rather variable depending on the habitat. In a part-shade open woods, we found it pretty robust, the stems rather leafy and the stem leaves relatively large. In a sunny open prairie, it took on a much more spindly appearance, the leaves narrower and more widely spaced on the stem. Regardless of habitat, it can be distinguished from other members of the mustard family with small white flowers by the long stiff hairs on leaves and stems. There are 2 varieties in North America, with var. pycnocarpa found in Minnesota.
or Smooth Rock Cress was listed as a state Special Concern species in 2013, due to its few known locations, low populations and the threats of invasive species, primarily buckthorn and non-native honeysuckles.
I'm not seeing any "yellow tipped stamens?" but maybe it's too early in season? Also I don't see any basal ground stems...."The basal leaves typically wither away by flowering time."??
Spreading-pod Rock Cress is not an uncommon plant by any means, yet it was surprisingly difficult to ID. It isn't listed in any of my field guides or other print references, nor is there much info about it on the web. I wasn't sure this was it until I looked at a herbarium specimen. There are several species of Rock Cress in Minnesota; they are distinguished by the shape of the leaves or cluster, and/or the shape or positioning of the fruit.
My neighbor sewed two Harbor Freight canvas tarps - cheap - and I "waterproofed" - only the silicone-turpentine (paint thinner) mix was not "odor free" so it needs to offgas. Wonder how long that will take?
This is the 8 person Guidesman Dome tent - it was clearance for half off - and the reviews complain of rain leaking and poles breaking. So I needed to add that extra canvas rainfly. Should be interesting to see if it holds up for the season!
I saw a ton of mosquito larvae getting ready to hatch so I needed to make sure to have a safe space. haha.
That tent is about 15 feet long!! the dome is over 6 feet high - maybe over 7 feet high.

Guidesman® 8-Person 18' x 10' Dome Tent
It's the SAME tent as this "Pacific" brand sold for twice as much
I took out the rainfly to attach it to the tent. I tried every which way possible. I read the instructions over and over again. NOTHING seemed to work. The rainfly just didn't fit.
YES - hence my Harbor Freight canvas rain fly!
The one I ordered was for the 8 person multi room dome tent. The one I received was for the 6 person dome tent with screen room.
fascinating! that explains why the rainfly was too small!
The zippers keep hanging and grabbing the Nylon. Eventually zippers came apart and we couldn’t even get it back on track.
Yeah gotta be real careful with those tiny cheap zippers!
The first day we used it the the zipper jammed and ripped. The top where you attached the poles ripped as well.
The instructions even WARN of the "pockets" for the poles "ripping" - hahaha. Not a good sign!
There was a light rain and it leaked everywhere in the tent and ruined a lot of my belongings.
Yeap - hence the extra rainfly!
this tent leaks like crazy from the pocket seams
Yes that's why I put up the rainfly.
This tent leaks really bad when it rains.
Used it once, zipper broke
I'll be extra careful.
After a few hours of rain water came in every window and the door.
This should be interesting!! hahaha.
the tent is not water resistant. Water enters through the seam and it becomes leaky.
Yes I treated the extra tarp for water resistance with silicone!
even with the tarp on water still came through the seams near the bottom of the tent which resulted in plenty of puddles of water.
I put some ground tarps under the tent - so hopefully that will help with ground puddles of water.
Whatever option you choose, always use a ground cover under your tent. This will help keep moisture from seeping through your tent, getting your gear wet, and will protect the life of your tent. Abrasive ground will wear out the floor of any tent no matter how durable it is, so ground cover or tarp protects the tent.
I had an 8x10 tarp over the tent in anticipation of rain but seems I'll need a bigger one.
Yeah my tarp is 18 x 12? Let me check again...Yep - my neighbor SEWED together two 9 x 12 tarps!
. Made of a durable 68-denier, 190T polyester taffeta with an 800mm polyurethane coating,....The rugged and waterproof polyethylene tarp floor offers great durability and locks ground-level moisture outside the tent where it belongs. Strong and sturdy, heavy-duty shock-corded fiberglass poles slide easily through the tent's continuous pole sleeves for quick and easy setup.
Flooring got holes from small rocks first use
Again ground cover was used so...
Tent had weak stitching on seams. Threat came apart after tent setup.
yep - it's a cheap cheap tent but also huge!
