The Noncommutative Solar-Lunar Calendar alchemy secret via Robert Temple

Thanks for a reader informing me about this.

I found mention of Robert Temple comparing the Pythagorean Comma to the Solar calendar. Fascinating! thanks. That original source is from Ernest McClain (with whom I corresponded a bit back around 15 years ago!).

By octave reduction we see that the Pythagorean comma is worth exactly
524288:531441, approximately 73:74. This is the amount by which six
wholetones of 8:9 exceed the octave 1:2 ... A true number appropriate to lives. The comma we have defined exceeds the octave 1:2 by about the same ratio by which Plato's year of 365
days exceeds his calendar base of 360 (12 months of 30 days each), a problem
he solves in Laws in the Egyptian manner by adding five extra “election” days
at the end. The comma of 73:74 and the ratio 360:365 = 72:73 show the same
discrepancy in the soul as in “days and nights and months and years.
the 360-day year derived from the average year of the lunar and the solar: (365.2425 (solar) + 354.3829 (lunar))/2 = 719.6254/2 = 359.8127 days, rounding to 360.
Very fascinating indeed!
thanks very much -

p.s. logically this means the solar-lunar calendar is actually noncommutative!
From my AAAA book:
And so China preserved the secrets of the alchemical training. The first note as
the 1 was also based on 81 as the number of lunar months to align with 19 solar
years and then this multiplied together gave the difference between the octave as
the 1 with the 2/3 and 3/2 as the Perfect Fifth Yang as the Solar energy of the
Year or also known as the Pythagorean Comma
So the 2nd note as 6 of 9 was from 90 feet long with a circumference of 9 as 81 -
the number of Lunar Months as the 1st note as Heaven. 6 was 2 as Earth x 15 (the
solar month as 24 solar months in a year) which gives 12 months (or 12 harmonic
notes) with Earth as the value of 2 solar months!! So 30 is the value of Earth and
take 2 to get 60 as the length x 6 of the diameter to get 360 as the solar year!
So the Chinese took the Pythagorean Comma as a reversal.
