So last year I cleared out the crabgrass that was thriving along the hot dry conditions next to the road - so that strip of crabgrass was replaced by Tuff Turf, a new drought resistant variety.
So next to the road is the hottest condition for the grass and yet it's still green while farther away from the road the old variety of grass has not survived.... or has gone "dormant" - hopefully the roots are still alive. If not - it's time for more Tuff Turf!!
So again the Tuff Turf is closest to the black top so that it should be the most dried out from the drought. Maybe it gets more water from road rain but the road has a drain route on the other side - so the water flows down and away to the other side of the road.
The reason it's not a lot of grass is because I was just replacing the crabgrass. I was not trying to make a comparison experiment but that's precisely what happened!!
PROOF that the Tuff Turf Drought Resistant grass stays green!!
