This interview with physicist Lawrence Krauss is from 2010 so it's probably before Roger Penrose realized the foundation of his "Twistor" model was based on noncommutative geometry aka "quantum algebra."
When you hear the term "quantum consciousness," you should be suspicious. The reason you should be suspicious is because we don't even understand classical consciousness. If we don't understand classical consciousness, how can we understand quantum consciousness?
Krauss makes the classic logical error of putting classical physics "first" whereas my own quantum mechanics professor, Herbert J. Bernstein (also the first professor of Lee Smolin), argued everyone should take quantum mechanics as their first physics course, otherwise they get the wrong foundation of science!
Many people are dubious that Penrose's suggestions are reasonable, because the brain is not an isolated quantum-mechanical system.
So the main argument of Krauss is that the "quantum weirdness" gets "washed out." Why? because obviously the quantum weirdness can not scale up to the macro level. Well that's not true if it is Noncommutative geometry. Noncommutativity is NOT limited to the microquantum scale and this was the big emphasis of quantum physicist Eddie Oshins who worked at Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. Oshins realized the secret of Daoist Neigong as internal alchemy meditation was based on noncommutative phase logic that he called "quantum psychology."
What this means in particular is that Eddie Oshins realized the body postures of Daoist Neigong - whether it be Tai Chi or Wing Chun or other practices - literally resonated as noncommutative phase energy! So for example the outside of the hand is yang and so faces the lower body that is yin. The inside of the hand is yin and so faces the upper body as yang. I have a "gif" of these practices on the right side of this blog.
Therefore people get the notion that there's no objective reality, and that you can literally impact on the external world just by doing things internally. That's not the case. If you want to affect something in the external world, you have to do something to it. You can't just hope for the best.
Here Lawrence Krauss is making the logical error that a subjective truth to reality is the same as just "hoping for the best." On the contrary there is a specific type of training, just as I gave an example of from Eddie Oshins. In the Western esoteric teachings this was sometimes called the "Law of Polarity" without realizing the specific structural logic of noncommutative phase.
In fact most even not almost all scientists are unaware of noncommutative geometry or quantum algebra. When I corresponded with quantum physics professor Basil J. Hiley I emphasized to him that time-frequency is noncommutative. Hiley now also emphasizes this noncommutative quantum algebra as the foundation of reality, just as does Roger Penrose. Hiley, having been the collaborator with David Bohm, also suggested to Roger Penrose his term of "twistor" for a pre-spacetime "spin" source of reality. So we know that it is the 1/2 spin that is noncommutative and therefore requires a 720 degree rotation to return back to a symmetric mathematics in quantum physics. This is called the "Poisson Bracket" in quantum physics mathematics (as Dirac realized).
Basil J. Hiley does not use any wave function equation - and so the mathematics of quantum physics can very greatly.

The Meru Foundation is also studying the noncommutative phase math as promoted by Math professor Louis Kauffman, with whom I've also corresponded.
We're bombarded by many things every second of the day, and a result, we're not specially prepared quantum mechanical systems, nor can we exert weird quantum powers over other objects.
Again Lawrence Krauss is assuming a classical physics reality as his foundation for analysis. Math professor Ian Stewart, with whom I corresponded, points out that we have not proven that the foundation of quantum physics is random. Nobel Physicist Roger Penrose, on the contrary, argues that the foundation of reality is NOT random but only seemingly random. And so the negentropy of gravity is also highly coherent aka has a small phase wave.
The Sun’s smaller number of photons means fewer degrees of freedom, and therefore a smaller phase-space region and hence a smaller entropy, than in the photons returned to space. The plants make use of this low-entropy energy in their photosynthesis, thereby reducing their own entropy. Then we take advantage of the plants to reduce ours, by eating them, or eating something that eats them, and by breathing the oxygen that the plants release.

Penrose had considered early on that spin might be more fundamental than space-time and invented spinor and twistor algebras for a combinatorial description of space-time geometry (13, 14). Bohm and Hiley generalized the twistor idea to Clifford algebra as a possible basis for describing Bohm’s implicit order (22). Recently various spin foams have been formulated as extensions to Penrose’s spin networks for the purpose of constructing a consistent theory of quantum gravity (23, 24). In Hestenes’ geometric picture, the zitterbewegung associated with the spin of the Dirac electron is qualitatively shown to be responsible for all known quantum effects of said electron and the imagery number i in the Dirac equation is said to be due to electronic spin (25). Second, in Bohmian mechanics the quantum potential is responsible for quantum effects (26). Salesi and Recami has recently shown that said potential is a pure consequence of “internal motion” associated with spin evidencing that the quantum behavior is a direct consequence of the fundamental existence of spin (27).

So the negentropy is from the nonlocality as a proto-consciousness that is not random!
We can then see that the source of Roger Penrose's term "proto-consciousness" was probably from Bernard d' Espagnat:
To sum up, within this conception it is considered that even microsystems can be endowed with “internal states of consciousness” (or “protoconsciousness”, whatever this may be) that are elements of a basic, not publicly accessible, reality, rather than of empirical reality.”

Biology Ph.D. researcher Dr. Mae-Wan Ho gives us further details on how this noncommutative phase negentropic energy can resonate as a macroquantum energy:
The clue to both binding and segmentation is in the accuracy of phase agreement of the spatially separated brain activities. That implies the nervous system (or the body field) can accurately detect phase, and is also able to control phase coherence. I have already alluded to the importance of phase information in coordinating limb movements during locomotion and other aspects of physiological functioning, so it is not surprising that the nervous system should be able to accurately detect phase. The degree of precision may be estimated by considering our ability to locate the source of a sound by stereophony. Some experimental findings show that the arrival times of sound pulses at the two ears can be discriminated with an accuracy of a very few microseconds [1]. For detecting a note in middle C, the phase difference in a microsecond is 4.4 x 10-4. Accurate phase detection is characteristic of a system operating under quantum coherence. Could it be that phase detection is indeed a key feature of conscious experience?Dr. Mae-Wan Ho
The wide range of frequencies in an organism is just fantastic. In my book, I say that it’s like 70 doublings of the octave. I use the analogy of ‘quantum jazz’ to express the quantum coherence of the organism. It goes through a fantastic range of space and time scales, from the tiniest atom or subatomic particle to the whole organism and beyond. Organisms communicate with other organisms, and are attuned to natural rhythms, so they have circadian rhythms, annual rhythms, and so on. At the other extreme, you have very fast reactions that take place in femtoseconds. And all these rhythms are coordinated, there is evidence for that.... Imagine a huge jazz band of musicians making music, from very small instruments to the very large, playing very fast to very slow, with a musical range of 70 octaves. They are improvising from moment to moment, spontaneously and freely; and yet keeping in tune and in step with the whole. That is the ultimate quantum coherence....The fully quantum coherent state would be quantum coherence of n order, n being a very large number approaching infinity. This state is only reached rarely, perhaps once or twice in a life time, for some of us, or maybe not at all [nirvikalpa samadhi or the Taoist Emptiness as the Tai Chi]....I have no doubt that at least some of the more esoteric things people ascribe to quantum effects are real, such as instantaneous communication at a distance, remote healing, etc. But we can push the boundaries from the very conventional toward quantum coherence of the organism, to complete quantum coherence of the universe. I believe the universe is quantum coherent. Quantum coherence is everywhere. And if we know how to tune into it, we see it....It is like a symphony. I’m a Taoist at heart. And quantum coherence and Taoism are one because coherent action is effortless action. Quantum Jazz Biology interview with Dr. Mae-Wan Ho June 2010
And so can we have quantum coherence as noncommutativity?
We present a measure of quantum coherence by employing the concept of noncommutativity of operators in quantum mechanics.

We argue that the efficiency of the quantum phase estimation algorithm, an important rung in the Shor factorisation algorithm, is potentially related to the measure of noncommutative coherence.
While the concept of quantum coherence was well-
known since the beginnings of quantum mechanics, it
is only recently that a systematic quantification and
resource-theoretic analysis of it has been performed.
In this paper, we looked at the concept of noncom-
mutativity of operators in quantum mechanics to formu-
late a quantification of quantum coherence. We termed it
as noncommutative coherence, and tried to analyse some
of its properties. Similar to the conventional quantum
coherence measures, the noncommutative coherence also
depends on a chosen basis.

We can find David Albert, quantum physicist, critiquing, if not debunking, Lawrence Krauss's pop science book on the origins of the Universe.

Thomson, who witnessed the breast-grabbing incident, received the provost's written judgment, called a "determination" from Searle and shared it with Science. His conclusion concurred with the findings of investigators from ASU's Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI).
In response to an email asking what specific actions the university is taking, an ASU spokesperson wrote: "Professor Lawrence Krauss is no longer director of Arizona State University's Origins Project, a research unit at ASU. Krauss remains on administrative leave from the university. It is the policy of the university not to comment on ongoing personnel matters."
Investigators found the woman and the four witnesses more credible, based on a preponderance of the evidence, and Searle agreed, he wrote.

Once again we see Schrodinger's order from order capable of capturing quantum events, and what Jordan termed amplification of quantum phenomena into the macroscropic world. Life seems to bridge the quantum and classical worlds, perched on the quantum edge (p. 132)....If we return to our musical analogy one final time, with the guitar acting as the odorant molecule and the guitar strings as the molecular bonds that need to be plucked, then the receptors come in Eric Clapton or Jimi Hendrix forms. Both can play the same molecular notes, but right- or left-handed molecules have to be picked up by right- or left-handed receptors, just as right-handed guitars have to be played by right-handed guitarists....This combination of shape and quantum vibration recognition at last provides a model that fits nearly all experimental data. Noncommutative systems are found to be more entangled than the usual quantum mechanical systems.
Dr. Rajendra Bajpai goes into detail about the photomultiplier measuring parameters for the definition of consciousness - it is the spontaneous emission of coherent light waves. The photons are "squeezed light" meaning defined as quantum non-commutative time-frequency consciousness. Using his methodology Dr. Bajpai says he can actually measure how a healer transfers his coherent light to a patient and then the patient's light becomes coherent while the healer's light is now incoherent. Then the healer may take an hour or whatever to be able to "re-attune" their light. Dr. Bajpai says this method directly measures how we are all tuned to each other! Schrödinger suggested that life was based on a novel physical principle whereby its macroscopic order is a reflection of quantum-level order, rather than the molecular disorder that characterises the inanimate world. He called this new principle “order from order”. But was he right?...Just as Schrödinger predicted, life seems to be balanced on the boundary between the sensible everyday world of the large and the weird and wonderful quantum world, a discovery that is opening up an exciting new field of 21st-century science. You're powered by quantum mechanics.
