This is quite paradoxical because "paying attention" here means an EXTERNAL focus. Yet "paying attention" to the source of the I-thought is a self-transcendent focus that is neither external nor internal. It is NOT "mutually exclusive" to "paying attention" externally but rather INCLUDES "external attention" as well.

 

 So the comments state that a brain study showed when people do a repetitive task (like a factory job?) then they make errors in a "rhythmic manner" that mirrors the brain's natural oscillations between the Default Mode Network (of internal wandering introspective thoughts) AND the "attention mode" of the brain.

So obviously the point of Samadhi is to MAINTAIN the "attention mode" of the brain.

Echidna has a LARGER prefrontal cortex than humans, relative to the whole brain but the Echidna does NOT dream - and therefore it's "intentional planning" is very limited. Dreaming is all the INHIIBITED subconscious perceptions that get processed "OFF LINE" so that the 40 Hertz "mind" as the Binding Mechanism can stay focused on predicting at intentional planning. So DREAMING is what creates the long-term memories stored with our subconsciousness as an integrated knowledge system. Without dreaming then we have to process the subconscious perceptions in "real time" and so we have to stay focused on the intention of the "now" all the time. This is what meditation does.

 No need to believe in god/afterlife - just ask yourself where do your I-thoughts come from? As Dr. Rodolfo Llinas points out - our "I" disappears when in deep dreamless sleep. So the question remains if we are just a biological machine then what happens if we consciously search out the biological origin of our thoughts. All thoughts are based on the I-thought. To whom does the I-thought refer to? It's a perfectly logical inquiry based on logical inference. Start out by repeating I-I-I-I-I-I in your "consciousness" and NOT as a meaningless mantra but rather as the origin of all thought. Whenever a thought arises - remind yourself that such thought is from the "I of the Vortex" that is thinking the thought. Focus solely on the VORTEX as the source of the I-thought. Then logically infer that there must be some kind of Vortex that remains even when the I-thought vanishes. LISTEN to the source of this I-thought as the vortex directly.  study Hameroff and Penrose. there is "consciousness" but there is also "proto-consciousness." the "I of the Vortex" is a self-organizing process of the brain neurons - and so this is self-consciousness based on time-frequency energy that builds up enough mass as momentum to then "collapse" the proto-consciousness. The Proto-consciousness is what religion calls God or the Emptiness. So it is a nonlocal information as the 5th dimension that stores energy as information which is conserved. So that could be called our Soul also. The spirit is then the biophoton coherence as consciousness - and can be seen as light internally in the body through meditation. This is studied in quantum biology. This light can be built up in intensity and frequency - and also can be then transmitted to others via the proto-consciousness energy. So that is how spiritual healing works.

  it's the same thing since listening is our last perception to "go" and never really goes at all. Just listen to the source of your I-thought. Our ears can hear FASTER than Fourier Uncertainty or "time-frequency uncertainty." The highest sound we can listen to is proven, in tinnitus research, to then resonate the whole brain as ultrasound. The ultrasound in turn resonates the microtubules as quantum coherence with the tubulin (going into light frequencies and quantum nonlocality). All this by simply listening to the highest sound heard externally with an internal focus. have fun. 

 The "sovereign" governments became indebted to the Aristocratic Private Banks due to needing to hire Mercenaries for expansionary warfare.
