Announcing the "new" improved straps (?) on the $30 Harbor Freight Greenwood Four Gallon Backpack Sprayer!

Well at least it's new to me and says "New" on the box.... how new is it?

So here is it - new to our place.

I "unboxed it" and perused the instructions. There's a bag of little parts in case some get lost. A few other sprayer heads. You have to attach the extension nozzle. Then I unattached it and put it all back in the box.

But the pump is pretty cool - it's bigger than I expected for a pump - and it is lubricated with vasoline mineral oil.

I never did read the reviews... hmm.

I figured it would be the lowest price I could find anywhere...

So they have a demonstration video. Mine said it had been Pre-Tested at the factory and there might be some water residue in the bottom of the tank. I didn't check but it was more assembled than in this video. I didn't have to take anything "out" of the tank. I didn't check but I wasn't missing anything.

Compares to sprayers that cost 5X as much.

I was really surprised at the quality of the unit. It compares to sprayers that cost 5X as much. It works great for my needs in our small orchard.

That's the response I got when I told the price. They thought it cost 5x more.

A little better quality than HF's previous 4 gallon sprayer

I bought a 4 gallon sprayer from HF about 4 years ago. This one, at about the same price, seems a lot better made. I used the older one but had problems controlling and directing the spray nozzle. No such problems with the new version. The older version just got consigned to the trash.

Ah so it is new! that comment was from last September.

Cost effective and very effective sprayer!!!

Don’t let price fool ya!! By no means is this product cheap. Well built and sturdy. I love the dual spray head. Get twice the work done in half the time. I love this sprayer so much, I purchased a second one just for kicks. A great product at a great price point. I have owned $100 backpack sprayer and it’s not any better.

The pump mechanism appears to hold the pressure, so you aren't pressurizing the whole tank like a hand pump jug sprayer. Even with 2 gallons of liquid, it's easy to handle. I wouldn't recommend filling it with the full 4 gallons unless you're really strong.

 That's good to know!

So I can use this to water the mushroom trees also - back in the woods here.

but the main reason is now I can spray the huge lawn here with compost tea fertilizer four times a year plus also chelated iron for broadleaf weed control.

the only thing I wish it would do is have a twist nozzle to adjust the coverage of spray

yeah there's 4 different spray attachments instead.

Only wish there was a chest strap.

Just tie some cord across.

Comes with a double head attachment for greater spray width

That's what I'll use.

We spray a lot on our 12 acre parcel, and this has made spraying much much easier, eliminating multiple trips to refill, no need to hand-carry the sprayer, and keeping pressure in the tank is a since with the hand pump at your side. I highly recommend this sprayer.

One of the sprayer head nuts broke due to too much tightening from me but at this price it's ok as there were other nuts I could use

Basically comes pre assembled with just having to connect the wand to the backpack and one strap that’s it vaola!

Precisely - only it's "voila" in English I think.

You HAVE to keep the liquid clean because the spray heads clog easily...... and that is YOUR fault! Oh, yeah, the spray heads are easy to clean and unclog. That is YOUR job.

So I need to really strain the compost tea well.

Wow so they have a coupon that brings it down to $20. But I didn't see it - I searched the coupons.

last spring.

(Item 63092 / 61368 / 63036 / 65040 / 93302)

So someone did a review of 63036 way back four years ago. My model is 65040. So I don't know if my model is "New" compared to 63036?

SAME brand of sprayer on Amazon for $76?

There's a number to call if any parts are missing or broken...1-888-866-5797.

Most sprayer company's fittings are interchangeable; Greenwood is the only one that is not.

Hilarious.

These wands don't last. I've had 2 of them and neither lasted over a couple of months. Get your money back.

the first year the wand handle cracks. This is the second one with the same problem. Tried to repair with Flex Seal but wouldn't hold the pressure.

, 2 of the hose nuts have cracked resulting in huge leaks. And the gasket at the tank cap came off resulting in my being drenched in herbicide after picking the tank up.
I purchased this at Harbor Freight and find that this is the case with a lot of their tools...good for a few uses, limited warranty coverage, no replacement parts.....Funny thing this sprayer is rated 4 stars by reviews on Harbor Freight but only 2 stars on Amazon....says in Terms of usage that Harbor Freight may edit their reviews...

provided spray nozzle is completely unsatisfactory. It has an irregular spray pattern and is easily clogged. It it worked, it would spray in a fan pattern, but that pattern is very irregular, making it useless. If a good-quality replacement nozzle were available, I would just replace it, but the hose and nozzle attachments are non-standard. The replacement wands and nozzles available on Amazon and at the big-box stores WILL NOT FIT.

 interesting.

The only issue I am having is the strap with the clip keeps coming off when I’m pumping

Call the 800 number the wand is $8.66

I should really order extra replacement wands.

I have the latest version and it has a padded backpack strap which is nice. Very comfortable.

Ah so that's the big improvement?

The handle assembly leaks after a winter of cold storage. They split down the length of the handle from the cold.

Ah good to know! I will store it INDOORS! Awesome news. That's why I research these comments.

watch out if you are filling it to 4 gallon like i was, the strap catch will break like mine did. had to use tie wraps.

I suppose there's residual water in the handle - and it freezes outside, expands and cracks. Probably ok in an insulated garage - but it could freeze also.

Some have made a slot on the other side to match the first one and then secure it the same way. Apparently there are multiple versions of this sprayer

So.... the straps are a serious issue unless you use this secret fix!

Willis Handy Service

Sp what was the clip you threw away for
I think you were just supposed to clip in to the bottom and let gravity do its job. I like my way better.

I don't know - we'll see if I need to do this "adjustment"

Yeah I got the NEW improved straps!!

THERE'S super nice comfy pads

the buckles stay in place

So the "wand" fell off the bathroom sink onto the floor. It didn't seem damaged so I hope it survived. haha.

The cheap plastic on the handle cracked when I accidentally dropped it from waist height onto the ground.
It's actually a carbon fiber wand I guess. So I just wrapped it in several newspaper plastic bags tied in knots - to cushion any future falls of the wand. haha.

Ok that last vid showed the issue better with the strap. So for most people that side strap is not installed and the manual does not tell you HOW to install it. So I'm not sure my side strap is installed correctly or not. I'll keep an eye on it. It held so far with two gallons filled.

The pump cylinder jacks off to the side (inside the tank) and is a pain to reset and seldom lasts more than 3 to 5 strokes. Spend you money on a better engineered product or give this one to your worrisome neighbor who is always asking to borrow your "stuff". I have 2 and each one has failed in the same way!!

Pump sleeve would not stay in place inside the sprayer body. It jumped out of its molded seat in the bottom of the sprayer housing.

So the key is NOT to over pressurize this thing!!

When pumping up the pressure in the tank it begins to leak from the pump just under where the hose connects to the pump.

the piston had punched out a 2 inch round hole in the bottom of plastic tank

So this backpack sprayer only holds 15 PSI - that is the LOWEST setting for spraying. Fine by me but only pump this thing a few times - LITERALLY. If someone pumps it ten times it's gonna break.

the pump handle broke off at the weld! lousy spot weld!

Sounds like JB Weld would fix that....

Welds on the handle broke within 10 minutes!!!

I put it together and went to use it and the weld on the pump handle broke within 10 minutes of use.It was just a faulty weld on the handle.I called customer service and they are sending me a gift card for the full amount.

I THINK I GOT LUCKY!!! I think mine is #60392

I ordered 2 of these sprayers and received them coming from different manufacturers. The one with item # 63092 works alright but both of them do not have enough pressure behind them to spray affectively beyond about 3 feet. So if you buy these thinking of spraying your trees, forget about it. The other sprayer, # 63036 has a lot of leaking problems from the hose ends and from the pump end where it comes out the tank.

 NOPE - mine is 63036 - dang!!

I'm gonna put Silicone on it!!!!
