This is AFTER I unboxed or unpacked the tent to inspect it.
So I couldn't fold it as nicely as whomever folded it - probably a machine?
The Nylon tarp tents are sold on "aliexpress" for a lot cheaper ($170 compared to $250) than Pomoly - meaning that Pomoly is just repacking them with a label. But I could NOT find this Poly Cotton tipi tent on Aliexpress. So my guess is that Pomoly is getting it custom ordered for their sales.
So there is the tent nicely folded - compared to above. Oops.
So the contents "unrolled" out of the bag.
The six "big" stakes are for the main tent but the 10 smaller stakes are "extra." There's actually just four guy lines on the sides - and I was expecting stake loops in the center. Nope. Maybe on the bigger tent.
So I ordered Snow Stakes from a company out west - Seattle Manufacturing Corporation. They're just under 12 inches long and I got 10 of them. The shipping cost was half the cost - but overall it's still cheaper than the REI snow stakes or MSR snow stakes.
Cheaper but actually two inches LONGER than the REI snow stakes.
The Center pole seems solid steel.
The top "attacher" cone. So it's a third as long as the height of the tent - meaning it's one of the poles length. So 71 inches is the height total. So about two feet long.
So the tent spread out - must be about four feet tall then.
So this is a length view of the bottom edge - again I thought there would be inner loop holes but no. That's ok - in the center of those flaps - I can just cover it with snow. The German man that is the original designer of this tent - he uses nylon for these flaps - that is water proofed - and I think he has loop holes in the center.
Triangle wind rope fixing point
I thought that would be loops on the inside for stakes but I guess not.
Also he uses much thicker canvas cotton for the actual tent. But he does not have a stove jack!
So how is this stove jack rolled up again?

OK I'll look for that loop underneath. I hope they didn't forget it. haha.
Ok I'm gonna go try set it up outside. But then I'll be using an external "pole" frame and then get another poly-canvas tarp to put around the pole frame as a double layer of canvas with some air insulation in between.
So far I am pleased with the tent - still I need to set it up to get a better idea of the zippers, etc.
I'm not even sure if this is "poly canvas" - they claim it's 30% polyester but it feels just like a thin canvas to me - like the typical "cotton" summer tents sold on Alibaba.
I'm gonna look into that more.
I see tent fabric sold as 80% cotton 20% polyester that is 12 ounce. Let me see if that is it.
Yep - this is what they're mass producing the "cotton" canvas tents from in China.
So it's actually 11 ounce canvas - when I search their specs.
46*28 Weight 370GSM
Weight: 10.9ozs/yd2 (370gsm)
Strangely Pomoly does not have their canvas tent listed on Amazon.com.
plastic PVC backing with a waterproof coating
Wow - that's the "silver waterproof" layer on their polyester tents! Egaads! I almost ordered that cheaper priced version on Aliexpress - in the middle of the night - thankfully I canceled the order.
300D Oxford Cloth With Silver Coated Layer
Wow - so glad I got the canvas tent!
Ottertex Waterproof Canvas Silver - Fabric.com
This fabric is 600x600 denier, 100% polyester and 61/62” wide. The canvas waterproof features a plastic PVC backing with a waterproof coating, making it ...
Pomoly old channel - on youtube!!
Is this a Japanese company? Strangely my tent went through Japan on the way to Alaska....
OK that's just a review channel.
Ok I just found them describing their larger canvas tent as 3000 MM waterproofing. So I think this is what it is - it's NOT poly cotton but rather..
Bell tent cover material: 285g/sqm (0.63 lbs/10ft2) Beige Cotton Canvas with 3000mm waterproof PU coating
100% cotton canvas, 300gsm, PU coating
So it's actually 8 ounce claiming to be 11 ounce due to the silicone treatment - just as below:
12 ounce weight before water resistant treatment, 18 ounce after water resistant treatment
So that's only 8 ounce cotton!
Tent Fabric | Canvas (70% cotton + 30% polyester) |
Waterproof | 3000mm+ Waterproof |
hmmm yeah I think this is only 8 ounce cotton with no polyester.
Maybe they treat it with Polyurethane? PU coating...?
If a product is labeled as Oeko-Tex certified it is completely free from harmful chemicals and safe for human use. To attain Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification, the fabric has been tested and certified to be free from harmful levels of more than 100 substances known to be harmful to human health.
Cool - yeah no off-gassing
Oh that's just the SEAM that has the PU coating.
UNISTRENGH 4 Season Large Waterproof Cotton Canvas ...
8 ounce canvas - this has to be what they're using. It's definitely not thicker than 8 ounce.
OK I'm gonna test the "water proofing" on this to see if the canvas "beads" up with the water rolling off.
YEP - it passed the Poly Cotton test of water beading up and running off. I'm convinced!!
