$240 Danner Pronghorn Realtree boots for $5 at local thrift store

I was surprised at how WARM these boots are! The "thinsulate" really works. I've had "thinsulate" boots before but my most recent pair of boots are more just hiking books than insulated winter boots.

So I had forgotten the huge warmth difference.

I didn't expect these boots to be so pricey new - but I suppose my model is several years old...

For close to two decades, the Pronghorn boot has been a trusted cornerstone in the Danner hunt line.

I had never heard of "Danner" before.

These are the warmest and most comfortable boots I’ve owned.

It's true they are surprisingly comfortable.

They are dry, very warm (even sitting in a tree from pre-dawn until dark), andvery durable.

 So ...

Great arch support, ankle support, and overall comfort and warmth. A boot well done!!

yep - it's an impressive boot.

The number after the color and before the "G" is the number of grams of insulation. 1,200 is how many grams my latest Danner Pronghorn boots

 Oh these are 400 insulation

My reason for going with the Pronghorn was I liked the reinforced toe cap, wider toe box, rear sole stance, 400g Thinsulate, and most of all, WATERPROOF. These got a real world test during our Ohio winter this year when it was 20 degrees down to single digits for almost a month and a half. My feet have not been cold (or wet) in these boots yet. The leather is butter-soft and the soles and footbed offer good support without being stiff. Unless the other boot companies step up their game, my next pair will be Danner as well.

Yeah I got a bigger size so I can wear very thick wool socks. Or those were the size I found - the only pair.... not even PRICED! The young lady at the register gave me a deal. haha.

I did also treat them with Hubert's shoe oil before going.

Each one of these boots have a large toe box because as you put stress on your feet from hauling heavy packs through the mountain you need the extra room for swelling and expanding. The most important thing is the lacing system tightens the boot appropriately so you do not get heel slippage. Overall the boot fits as a true hunting/hiking boot should. I have the previous model of the Danner Pronghorn and can speak from experience, they got these right.

I can't really tell about the toe box...

They have good ankle support without being bulky or stiff and are waterproof.

Ok some people complained of the boot seams coming apart. I have not noticed this issue so far - so the donation was a good one to the thrift store. thanks
