Shiitake Inoculation so far on the big downed oak branch and portable wood stove vent holes drilled

I took too many tree photos. This is the main branch - it literally is a BRANCH that came down in a storm. The main trunk is still standing with another branch growing out of it - huge tree.

All those  white spots are food grade wax covering up the shiitake spawn holes - that I drilled and filled....

Yeah I better rotate these photos so I don't get dizzy.

So here's the tree in sections:

Yeah so I have a lot left to still inoculate. I overdid that first main branch part (above)

So tomorrow I'll start at the end branches and just do a few lines across the rest of the whole tree.

That way I'll make sure the whole tree is covered.

Then the day after I'll use up more of what I have left.

I've used 1/4th of the two bags so far.

So then I tested out my folding bike and I went up this long steep hill after I rode the bicycle down to the river - in the park. I tried to stay out of the campers' area. Kind of strange that people actually pay to go camping so near by. The bicycle has a nice first gear - meaning I can get up steep hills. So that was a good test. The tires had lost quite a bit of air but I have a fancy bicycle pump - it's not portable.

These folding bicycles have an internal derailer and I need the derailer adjusted - it makes an annoying clicking noise on 2nd and 3rd gear. So you're supposed to bring it into the shop to get adjusted - only I bought the bicycle way down in the big city....

Oh well.

I'll see what the job entails.

208. Tent Stove Draft Issues? Try This Easy Fix.

I've been keeping an unfinished stove project (from a portable bbq). I just wasn't motivated to finish it - now I think I know why! This is great news - yes the draft issue was holding me back. Secondary combustion stoves utilize a tube that goes under the burning area also - even the FourDog stove I have explains their screen on the front vent this way. I was wondering why they said the bottom of the vent is left clear - a clear space - Don at FourDog said it was for secondary combustion burn! So I think part of this is the colder air is lower - and so you have a better pressure difference for the draft. Yeah I look forward to finishing that wood stove now - I needed to make the door. Someone even made the strange comment (to me) to close the vent before opening the door - to stop back draft? I thought that was very strange but if you have the holes at the bottom staying OPEN then now it makes sense.

Just drilled the bottom vent holes. Just now need to make the door.... and chimney hole....
