The Minneapolis Sound was a phrased coined to describe both Prince as a global music pop star and also the "grunge" noise bands of The Replacements and Husker Du. But in the 1960s there was also, of course, Bob Dylan and the "musician's musicians" - Koerner Ray and Glover - who assimilated (stole?) the black blues rags and hollers - as they titled their albums (and the British rock groups noted the influence of Koerner Ray and Glover as well on their "blues" rock music). https://www.tptoriginals.org/the-minneapolis-sound-made-mn-more-than-almost-famous/
If Minnesota’s thousands of lakes are the body, then the “Minneapolis Sound” is the vibrant, wild, beating heart. Others may label the state “flyover country,” but anyone who ever hears the likes of The Time, Hüsker Dü, Alexander O’Neal, The Replacements or, without question, Prince, knows that Minneapolis has a pulse unlike any other American metropolis. And so I was steeped in music in Minneapolis - and qigong master Jim Nance and I had some nice talks about this - we remembered "Del Ray" - a public street African-American drummer who would improvise song lyrics about people on the streets as he sang and played drums - in Uptown - with big crowds around him - in the 1980s.
So I don't remember my mom taking me to her piano lessons when I was 3 years old *where I listened in silence) but I started classical piano at 5 years old. Later I brought the first rock noise band into my piano recital! I also composed my own music to perform at my senior piano recital. Technically I was below average - to put it mildly - but in terms of investigating what does music "mean" - I was steeped into avant garde and roots reggae and church music and noise hardcore - country - rock, etc. I memorized Bach's Italian Concerto for example, among other classical piano pieces but I also performed noise rock and blues music with friends - in public places - and also I performed church choir music.
And this was tied into politics - the hardcore music scene in Minneapolis was tied to "Anti-Racist Action" - a 1980s hardcore activist movement. My first full time job was as an environmental activist - going door to door. My church was asked to be community monitors for the African-American church where local crack dealers had taken over the neighborhood... (our white church was too scared to do this of course).
So then I went off to do environmental activism as academic research - but it was always tied to music and social justice as a philosophy - and I did my master's thesis on this topic - radical ecology and social justice and music theory.
So then as people know - after my master's degree "Enlightenment Experience" then I literally descended into Minneapolis as what I called
Tantra in the Twin Cities -
it was really in Minneapolis though. I literally sat in full lotus in public fast food restaurants and parks - in the south side - literally right around where the "riots" were focused - I shopped at CUP foods right next to the murder of George Floyd. I dumpster dived while on bicycle - for ten years!
So in my several years of intensive tantra - I had lots of interactions with all sorts of people "on the streets" - this was my NEW activism. I literally felt the INSIDES of the people around me and had transformative experiences WITH THEM - to show people liberation - and I had strangers thank me.
I will be honest - it was the African-Americans and Native-Americans who would openly ACKNOWLEDGE to me and THANK ME for the energy experiences they had with me - a complete stranger! I would just SMILE to them and not say a word! My fellow whites only occasionally might make some reference to the energy experiences.
And so it went - for years. I'm not trying to take credit. I'm just saying - I started out as a "white liberal" radical progressive activist and ended up as a total tantric freak. I called this PRANARCHY - I even made a pamphlet about it.
Etherealize Pranarchy.
My goal was to go deeper and fing the Root of liberation. And then SPREAD that root around Minneapolis. I did that "secretly" - and I had cops watching me sometimes while I did this!
What could the cops do? I was sitting in full lotus!! haha.
And yet they did harass me - while I was on bicycle or sleeping in full lotus in public. I got arrested for that later "crime." Snoring in full lotus is a big crime apparently. haha.
And so after a few years of that final "activism" - started in the inter-racial Minneapolis Sound - Jim Nance was part of this as a lead singer for "Blue Beat" - a global blues music group - and - he used to have dreds as well. He did Zen meditation starting in Minneapolis in 1978.
I started out doing Music activism (my Minneapolis music training started in 1974) and moved into "real activism" and then I did Real REAL activism - NONWESTERN meditation as real transformative energy experiences with "strangers." This activism remains controversial and I have been castigated for sitting in full lotus in public - I've been told it was wrong to do, etc. haha. All I can do is laugh.
George Floyd is remembered for saying not just that he could not breathe but also calling out for his Mama. But I suggest that when we can not breathe - we can still be alive INSIDE our Mother - and this is true for us after Death as well - this is what is called "Immortal Breathing" in Daoist Neigong Neidan - also called Fetal Breathing. Our feets and hands and skull will pulsate with the Qi energy of the Universe - and the deep right side of our heart will BUZZ after death - just as at birth.
Jim Nance once yelled out to me,
"but I'm on your side!" and I kept ranting about activism to him.
He went silent and he most likely stopped physically breathing - but he kept ENERGY breathing. Suddenly as I drove the car - I felt a STRONG electrical force and buzzing on the right side of my heart. I shut up in Silent Shock.
As I drove in Silent Shock then Jim said to me, "I just wanted to check if you were speaking from your heart and you were."
That is the truth of the Minneapolis Sound that is now heard around the world.

When a friend of George Floyd said that he was a "manager at the McD's on 3rd and Lake" - I KNEW that McDs at 3rd and Lake - I had done Tantric Etherealize Pranarchy there in full lotus.
In other words - I'm talking about being INSIDE this community - in more ways than one. One of the managers at that McD's - an african-american female - Acknowledged to me - with a knowing nodding smile - based on what her worker had shared to her about what had happened. I knew that she knew and She knew that I knew that she knew.
And so it goes...
I'm talking about keeping it real.
I met Keith Ellison at our mutual friend's Ghana restaurant. My Ghana friend introduced me to her friend Keith Ellison. I sat in full lotus as I did the data entry for the Get Out the Vote to get Ellison elected and my direct manager was then hired as his office manager. I then wrote Ellison a letter detailing how my dad had been assistant attorney general.
And so when Keith Ellison now AG - described George Floyd crying out Mama - he is describing the existential spiritual truth of the moment beyond death vid - the Cosmic Mother manifesting in the voice of George Floyd - from beyond - the silent shock of the Minneapolis Sound that is now heard around the world.
The righteous Noble cause of seeking justice for George Floyd - Keith Ellison interview
My claim has been that the Epicenter of Justice is to JUST SIT - since justice is blind.
This does not mean Justice does not happen but rather that it Resonates as real Reason - via Sigh-Lens.
As Ellison emphasizes - justice often falls on deaf ears....
But I was a Phone Operator for the DEAF community! There is Justice is Sigh-Lens.
