Although scientists have known that PFAS are used in Glide, “this finding suggests that it may be more important than expected,” said Courtney Carignan, an associate professor of food science and toxicology at Michigan State University who was not part of the study.
In addition to looking at the women’s blood levels, the researchers analyzed the chemical makeup of 18 types of dental floss. Six tested positive for fluorine, an element that they said indicates the presence of PFAS compounds. Those products were CVS Health EaseBetween SuperSlip Dental Floss Waxed, Oral-B Glide Pro-Health Mint and Glide Pro-Health Original, Crest Glide Deep Clean Cool Mint Floss, Safeway Signature Care Mint Waxed Comfort Floss, and Colgate Total Dental Floss Mint. Why is this even legal?
Highly fluorinated chemicals called PFAS are added to a wide variety of consumer products to make them non-stick, waterproof, and stain-resistant.
Silent Spring Institute is studying this class of chemicals because some types of PFAS have been linked to cancers, including breast cancer, immunotoxicity in children, thyroid disease, reproductive problems, and other health effects.https://silentspring.org/news/dental-flossing-and-other-behaviors-linked-higher-levels-pfas-body
Scientists are concerned about widespread exposure to PFAS in the population because the chemicals have been linked with health effects including kidney and testicular cancer, thyroid disease, high cholesterol, low birth weight, decreased fertility, and effects on the immune system.
In the new study, researchers measured 11 different PFAS chemicals in blood samples taken from 178 middle-aged women enrolled in the Public Health Institute’s Child Health and Development Studies, a multigenerational study of the impact of environmental chemicals and other factors on disease.
To understand how people’s behavior influences their exposure to PFAS, the researchers then compared the blood measurements with results from interviews in which they asked the women about nine behaviors that could lead to higher exposures. Half of the women in the analysis were non-Hispanic white and half were African American.
Women who flossed with Oral-B Glide tended to have higher levels of a type of PFAS called PFHxS (perfluorohexanesulfonic acid) in their body compared with those who didn’t. To further understand the connection, the researchers tested 18 dental flosses (including 3 Glide products) for the presence of fluorine—a marker of PFAS—using a technique called particle-induced gamma-ray emission (PIGE) spectroscopy. All three Glide products tested positive for fluorine, consistent with previous reports that Glide is manufactured using Teflon-like compounds. In addition, two store brand flosses with “compare to Oral-B Glide” labelling and one floss describing itself as a “single strand Teflon fiber” tested positive for fluorine.FAQ pdf on the study
So the ADA tried to dismiss the study since they can't say what GLIDE is made of
creepy - the ADA is then just a PR arm of Big Pharma...

3M - a main producer of PFAS pollution!
And leaves a multi-billion dollar clean up effort behind!!These initiatives and actions build upon 3M's legacy of leadership regarding PFAS: 3M was the first company to voluntarily cease production of PFOS and PFOA, starting in 2000, as a proactive and precautionary measure. 3M discontinued the production and sale of AFFF more than a decade ago.Sep 9, 2019
3M Knew About the Harms of PFOA and PFOS - The Intercept
large quantities. While most manufacturers withheld the exact amount of the chemicals they produced, on the grounds that the information is confidential and that its disclosure would harm their businesses, these 15 were included on a list compiled by the EPA of compounds produced or imported in excess of 25,000 pounds per year in a single location. Such amounts have the potential to profoundly alter human biology, according to Philippe Grandjean, a toxicologist and adjunct professor of environmental health at Harvard University. “A tiny speck could seriously impact the health of a person,” said Grandjean, whose research has shown that very low levels of the chemicals depress children’s immunity.
3M was no longer making PFOA and PFOS in 2006. It was, however, making this other PFAS compound in large quantities — and, according to EPA documents, still was as of 2016 — but apparently has not been required to look for it.
But the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency couldn’t test water for it because it wasn’t aware that the chemical was made in its state. “There’s no ability for us to say, ‘Hey 3M, just give us the whole list of what you’re making,’” said Summer Streets, an environmental chemist at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. Instead the state agency relies on EPA to learn about what’s produced at the plant. And many of the critical details in the documents it receives from the EPA have been withheld on the grounds that they’re confidential business information, according to Streets. “That gets in a way of a lot of work,” she said. “We’re forever behind the eight ball.”
There is no way to know for sure whether her family’s dental issues or other health problems are due to the chemicals. But when told that several of the risk reports PFAS manufacturers submitted to EPA documented the chemicals’ dental effects, including alterations to the “mineralization of dentin,” one of four substances that comprise teeth, and “the enamel space of the incisor teeth,” Grosse was dismayed.
“It would be a violation of scientific ethics to submit humans to experiments,” said Grosse. “Yet the continued use of these chemicals without further testing has been an experiment on us.”https://news.bloomberglaw.com/product-liability-and-toxics-law/procter-gamble-sheds-suit-alleging-dental-floss-contained-pfas
Procter & Gamble Co. beat proposed class claims alleging it failed to disclose that Oral B Glide dental floss contained per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
James Andrews lacked support for his allegations that the floss had elevated levels of PFAS. He therefore failed to state viable deception claims under California consumer protection laws, the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California said.

Specifically, flossing with Oral-B Glide was associated with 24.9% higher median levels of PFHxS.
