it's a standard Military 7 day bag
Marines and Navy call it a Sea Bag. Army calls it a Duffel Bag.
I have one I use as a backpack for camping. I put a 5 gal bucket in it and put my pad around it for extra comfort. bucket used for so many things..rigidity, water, camp seat, ever a makeshift toilet lol. but yea pack a lot of gear and not uncomfortable
What a difference carrying a duffle like a backpack can make when traveling!
Duffel is a small town in Belgium near Antwerp, where a particular type of fabric was woven.
Duffel cloth was used to make seabags or ditty bags for sailors, whose trademark was a formless shape that could be crumpled up into a small space but also fit many items for a long voyage at sea.
This bag is equivalent to a big camping backpacking bag - only at a fourth of the price (at least)!! I used to have a big internal frame backpack.
So this bag is three feet tall.
now for my own photos

Wow - strange color on that one.

ADJUSTABLE STRAP ATTACHED TO EACH SIDE,PADDED SHOULDER STRAPS AND QUICK RELEASE ADAPTER ON EACH END OF SHOULDER STRAPS
Might be waterproofed on the bottom!Yes mine is definitely waterproofed on the bottom. Pretty cool.
OK by "quick release adapter" they mean there is an ingenious design - a one way "lip" that goes over the back - to lock the strap down with pressure on it. But then the strap buckle slides up so that it easily releases out the strap.
The Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) is a command of the United States Space Force, located at Los Angeles Air Force BaseWow - that is another bag sold used....wait - it's actually SNC
Here's that Quick Release Adapter - the back side has a "lip" that pulls it tight when there's pressure on the strap. But the bottom buckle over all slides back up for easy strap release. Actually mine does not have those "teeth" - so....
Wow - fascinating.
Small business qualifier SNC Telecommunications, LLC in Comerio, Puerto Rico received a maximum $15.9 million firm-fixed price, total set-aside contract for US Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps duffle bags. There was originally one proposal solicited with one response, and the contract will run until Aug 24/11. The Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support in Philadelphia, PA manages this contract (SPM1C1-09-D-0014).
So, a small business telecom company in Puerto Rico is making US military duffle bags. And the explanation for all this is that… they’re actually from Alaska. Which just clears everything right up, doesn’t it? It may help to know that SNC Companies are controlled by Nome, AK based Sitnasuak Native Corporation, a certified 8a Alaskan Native Corporation. Hence the set-aside. Despite the firm’s name, they do a lot of fabric-related manufacturing . Read “Alaska Native Corporations: IGs and Issues” for more background on this phenomenon.
The Plot Thickens! My bag does NOT say "SNC Telecommunications" - and it is a HEAVIER nylon - very heavy indeed. http://www.sncts.com/index.php/military/item/duffel-bag
Our 1000 Denier Textured Nylon is a heavy duty nylon fabric, finished with a clear polyurethane back coating and durable water repellent finish. 1000 Denier Nylon is a cost effective nylon fabric alternative for a variety of applications. So this is what it is:
Durable water repellent, or DWR , is a coating added to fabrics at the factory to make them water-resistant (hydrophobic). Most factory-applied treatments are fluoropolymer based; these applications are quite thin and not always effective.
It’s a chemical coating that you need to reapply over and over to make rain water bead on the surface of your rain gear and roll off. It wears off when your scrunch up a garment or it rubs against other clothing inside your backpack. The number one reason why waterproof/breathable rain gear fails is because the DWR coating wears out and rain soaks the fabric. This process, called wet-out,

Interesting! So better to put a silicone cover on the outer side... Mine does not seem worn out yet though. I should check!
Does it bead up still?
Yep it beads up but it is also carcinogenic synthetic toxic hormone disrupter - oops.
After the nylon fibers are woven, they're then coated in both a clear polyurethane (back side) and a durable water-repellent finish (front side) to create a rugged material that is strong, versatile, quick drying and easy to clean. You can distinguish the front of the fabric as it will have a rougher, shine-free finish compared to the sleek shine on the back side.https://www.sailrite.com/Cordura-1000D-Mil-Spec-U.S.-Army-Camouflage-59-Fabric
I'm gonna go look right now...
There is a slight light reflecting gleam to the rubberized or polyurethane inside of the bag - compared to the outside.
Polyurethanes (also called “urethanes”) are any of a family of elastomers, an artificial rubber.
CORDURA® material is a versatile nylon fabric with more strength and bulk than No. 7 Duck [CANVAS] at little more than half the weight.https://www.rockywoods.com/1000-Denier-Coated-Cordura-Nylon-Fabric
So there you have it!

So is SNC really charged with bribes and fraud over the nylon quality?
As far as I can tell - it's a different company called SNC-Lavalin based out of Montreal Canada.
SNC Telecommunications is a native company out of Alaska - awarded the fabric milling contract. SNC-Lavalin is an engineering firm. So apparently totally different. SNC Telecommunications seems to use the same military standard Cordura nylon. SNC Technical Services, LLC (SNCT) is a wholly-owned manufacturing holding company that is proudly one of the largest American producers of uniforms and related tactical gear for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). We are honored to support our men and women in uniform with Made in America products.... VIDEO of PUerto Rico operations
Full Metal Jacket!
Another contractor! My bag has the US stamp barely readable - so I guess the manufacturing stamp wore off. DJ Manufacturing probably lost the contract since they sued the US government!
The military fined them for not producing "field packs" fast enough... Sure enough upon really scrutinizing the bag under strong light - I could BARELY see the DJ stamp!!
DJ Manufacturing - also operating in Puerto Rico
In the six-year-period from 1998 to 2003, D.J. Manufacturing won more than $216 million in Defense Department contracts to make uniforms and related apparel and gear, with just over half in 2002 and 2003 alone. The contracts were all awarded through the Defense Supply Center in Philadelphia.Very interesting!
“It’s wartime, so there are a lot of contracts going around,” said Jacobson, noting that his company manufactured the duffel bags that soldiers used in Operation Iraqi Freedom, as well as field packs and coats that are part of the battle dress uniform, known in the trade as BDU.So SNC Telecommunications won the Duffle contract starting in 2004 to 2011.
So if you get a NEW one - then it's $57 plus shipping cost. Wow - pricey. And looks to be the same quality as the one I got.
So I then found the main review site for the used GI duffle bags - 290 reviews and HALF of them complain of their bag having a puke stench - some with a piss and crap smell also!! Wow I really lucked out.
http://www.militaryoutdoorclothing.com/Used-Government-Olive-Drab-Cordura-2-Strap-Duffle-Bag_p_320.html is the Amazon.com supplier - I guess their quality control is terrible....
