The visions of Harriet Tubman and other female nonwestern revolutionary shamans in the U.S.

I just watched most of the Harriet movie and I found it to be very profound. Was it accurate to portray her being guided by visions. I knew that the female shaman of Geronimo's Apache tribe ALSO relied on visions to guide them to freedom - and so when I watched the movie I had no reason to disbelieve.

 Lozen (c. 1840-June 17, 1889) was a warrior and prophet of the Chihenne Chiricahua Apache. She was the sister of Victorio, a prominent chief. Born into the Chihenne band during the 1840s, Lozen was, according to legends, able to use her powers in battle to learn the movements of the enemy.

 According to Alexander B. Adams in his book Geronimo, "she would stand with her arms outstretched, chant a prayer to Ussen, the Apaches' supreme deity,^[6] and slowly turn around." Lozen's prayer is translated in Eve Ball's book In the Days of Victorio:

Upon this earth
On which we live
Ussen has Power
This Power is mine
For locating the enemy.
I search for that Enemy
Which only Ussen the Great
Can show to me.^[7]

But on the other hand I was not sure if it was just dramatic license. No - turns out Harriet Tubman really was guided by visions! Awesome.

 According to multiple accounts, including Dunbar's, Tubman began to see visions when she woke up from her sudden slumbers, which she thought to be visions from God. And Harriet did indeed believe that through the visions, God showed her premonitions that helped keep her and the slaves she guided safe during her trips.

Did Harriet Tubman Really Have Visions?

So the reviews of the movie Harriet is that it was a hooky plot with too many "coincidences" but for those who have experienced real visions then these type of synchronicities are all too real! Not hooky at all - but for the typical materialistic WEsterner then they're gonna disbelieve I guess.

I had NO IDEA that Harriet had visions! I was actually thinking the movie would be boring. But on the contrary I found it to be very profound and also the "sub-plots" were entertaining as well.

 The overseer became enraged and threw a metal weight at her head, injuring her.
“The force of the weight literally fractured her skull,” Dunbar said. “She was bleeding profusely, she passed out and she was removed from the store. She never got medical attention – enslaved people rarely saw doctors.”
It wasn’t long after that Tubman returned to working in the fields, blood running down her face, dripping into her eyes and blurring her vision.
While the violent encounter left her battling splitting headaches and fainting spells that would leave her unconscious for long periods of time for the rest of her life, it was also said to have left her with a gift of visions that she interpreted as revelations from God.
“This was a way for God to speak to her, and so she would wake up from these sleeping spells having had visions — visions that she reported came directly from God that would tell her what to do and where to go. It would help her figure out how to keep herself safe,” Dunbar said. “And later on, they would be extremely helpful as she would help people, including herself, to escape slavery.”

I missed the beginning. Harriet, played by "Cynthia Erivo" who is also very beautiful. And then the lead evil man is one of those "pretty boy" white dudes - who claims he owns her (in more ways than one). But Harriet rules in the end. So let's face it - Harriet was one of the most amazing heroines of US history!

 Tubman successfully smuggled all of her family members out of slavery, including her elderly parents who eventually made it to Canada. She also successfully made all of her trips without anyone dying during the journey.
“Although Harriet Tubman could not read or write, she was probably one of the most knowledgeable people in the 19th century,” Dunbar said. “She learned and knew about trees and bushes, things that were edible and herbal remedies that could help with ailments or illnesses, cuts and bruises. She also knew quite a bit about the land itself. She knew her way without a compass, without the ability to read signs.”
Dunbar continues her deep dive into Tubman’s feats, including her time as a spy during the Civil War, in her new book “She Came to Slay: The Life and Times of Harriet Tubman.”

And so I mentioned before the biography of a white man who was kidnapped by the natives - and raised by an Indian Ojibwe female shaman who also relied on visions for their success in hunting (when game was rare due to all the white encroachment).

So yes these amazing visionaries shamans are the real deal - albeit very rare. Quite amazing that Harriet was a successful shaman who is also now famous.

HOWEVER there was a Black bounty hunter that was in the West who was catching White folks not black by the name of Bass Reeves....
