As far as physical exercise - the author of the book did teach that standing active exercise will double the results - he was a martial artist first before becoming a daoist immortal. I was reminded of Dr. David Eisenberg's 1985 book "Encounters with Qi" as he is a Harvard doctor in China and he sees telekinesis! He also goes running every day.
https://books.google.com/books?id=DgFA-kVkuZEC&q=running#v=snippet&q=running&f=false
I read this book early on - perhaps in 1996.
It's not mentioned in the google review - although I think he states how he was told he could not feel the qi easily since he already had strong qi from exercising regularly. I cite in my training pdf, Dr. Lin who studied the increased electromagnetic energy from exercise. 15 minutes of tai chi greatly increases the voltage whereas lighting weights hardly does at all. Walking and running are in between.
Also if you read Master Yan Xin's book on "secrets and benefits of qigong cultivation" he describes how he charged up a weight lifter with qi and so the person could double their normal lifting weight (something like that).
So Master Nan, Huai-chin teaches that the secret of celibacy is to do standing active exercise every night before sleep. I detail this in my training manual. So that will build up the qi energy.
From my experience with exercise - it depends how it is combined with meditation. So for example to do the 2 hours of nonstop "horse stance" with the thighs parallel to the ground - this requires the body to already be full of qi energy.
Chunyi says at first to do three times more standing active exercise than sitting meditation. But then once the third eye opens up you can do the opposite - with three times more sitting meditation than standing. But the standing exercise is still crucial to keeping the third eye open.
So with normal exercise a person can wear themselves out. With qigong exercise you combine meditation with the yin-yang resonance to then keep building up energy. So the movements of the exercise or even just a static standing posture - both are based on visualizing light as connecting the yin-yang energy channels.
So again in my experience I have encountered people who have exercised too much so then they are too tired and so then they need qi to restore their energy. Or also I have encountered energy imbalances - for example I remember one athlete having lots of anger in his liver - even though he did not "express" this anger. He trained as an MMA fighter.
So you want the goal of the exercise to then be to open the third eye and heart and that way the energy will be able to detect imbalances - via the pineal gland and through the Emptiness expressing itself while during meditation.
On the second question - Meditation and Pranayama can resonate with the Earth's Schumann resonance (the theta-alpha waves of the brain but also the central channel of the three tan tiens). So ideally you want bare skin against the earth to get more yin qi energy but the Earth creates a yin qi field. So for example being nearby a large expanse of water or being in higher elevation - or being close to big trees - these will also increase the yin qi energy.
https://www.lynchburgparksandrec.com/tree-hugging-hippies-right-part-iv/
this covers the schumann resonance.
So another big factor is to get away from electromagnetic pollution so then the schumann resonance will be stronger. This is documented for birds also - the birds get disoriented in the cities due to electromagnetic pollution.
So if you are able to "escape" away from the city to an area that is not connected to the "grid" - then the electromagnetic pollution will be much lower. Also if there are lots of trees around that will ground the energy of any remaining electromagnetic pollution.
So for me I notice that my dreams are much more vivid when I go to the mini-forest that is off-grid (even if I don't have my skin directly touching the ground).
In my experience if I meditate more than I interact more with electromagnetic pollution. For example in my previous house when the furnace would switch on then I would get a shock in the center of my brain. Kind of wild! One qigong report online said how the lights would get blown out - and the person stopped training because of this. Chunyi reported how when he got mad then light bulbs would explode in the house or his lawn mower would start smoking.
So for example Chunyi says to not meditate during a lightning storm. Dr. James Oschmann of "Earthing" fame says how the voltage potential during a storm will increase dramatically - into the tens of thousands between earth and the atmosphere. So normally the difference between the feet and head is 200 feet as a voltage potential. But the key is to get that energy "flowing" and that is done by activating the yin-yang channels simultaneous in the body-mind-spirit (like licking a 9-volt battery). So I go into that more in the training pdf.
The magnetic field is actually non-local or from quantum spin directly that is non-local. So the yin-yang energy or undivided yin-yang is this same non-local field that is inside everything and outside everything at the same time. So the Earth is naturally "flowing" as a charge of free energy via the lightning strikes in the atmosphere at 200 times per second. It is the phase difference between the electrons (yin qi) and protons (yang qi) that creates the Yuan Qi - as the non-local spin. kundalini activation
Low-level vagus nerve stimulation upregulates small conductance calcium-activated potassium channels in the stellate ganglion.
So if the third eye is fully open then a qigong master can recharge their energy pretty much as fast as they send energy back out. But the heart center has to be fully open as well - which is the "beyond death" state. So that means the Emptiness is doing the healing directly and not the personal intention of the qigong master. This helps to stop any of the lower emotions from causing a yin qi blockage to the flow between the yin and yang qi (as the Yuan Qi source).
So a qigong master can have their third eye fully open, but that does not mean the qigong master has had a truly full enlightenment experience of the heart fully opening (which is called in Mahayana Buddhism, the emptying out of the 7th level of consciousness).
So then on that level a qigong master may not necessarily store up energy in their bodies nor even heal their own bodies and yet they can constantly recharge and send out energy via the heart and third eye. This is one of the paradoxes of Ch'an masters that Master Nan, huai-chin discusses in his books.
Yes the San Bushmen were enslaved by the Bantus. But the San Bushmen culture originally spread around the world around 50,000 years ago after the Mt. Toba supervolcano explosion. the San Bushmen STILL have no rape and no war - and we are all from the San Bushmen culture. That is our biological birthright - to be as we were from over 70,000 years ago. Hardly anyone knows about their original human culture. So that is 90% of our biological time here on Earth. Sure - the San Bushmen culture spread around the world and denigrated after farming developed - but the original human culture is still around, barely surviving. haha. Human nature is NOT the same everywhere! Just because you ignore the San Bushmen culture does not mean it does not exist. It is true that MALES lied about the San Bushmen culture - so that Elizabeth Marshall Thomas' book "The Harmless People" was lied about. But she LIVED with an uncontacted San Bushmen tribe in the 1950s - for years. Richard Lee, a male anthropologist, studied a San Bushmen tribe that had ALREADY been enslaved by the Bantus. So then other males also lied about the San Bushmen culture. Our problem today is that the males do not do the necessary training that was REQUIRED in San Bushmen culture by ALL the males - to be more like Bonobos than like Chimpanzees. So us modern Westernized males are HARD-wired to be in DeNile that Mother Nature is in control.
