EcoEcho Week 3: the third stock tank! The Eastern Larch Beetle id

2 feet deep so I can double-deck the logs. I just need more weights.

There it is empty.

Is this a Pine Beetle or a Lark Beetle (that eats the Tamarack trees)?

Definitely an Eastern Larch Beetle - good thing I killed it.

Dry conditions weaken trees and make them more vulnerable to attack. Cofort says warming trends in the climate may also help the beetles thrive.
"It takes about 40 below to kill them off completely and right now we haven't had those cold temperatures for quite a few years," he said.
We had 40 below and lower last winter so hopefully that put a dent in these things.

Maybe this inspired my psychedelic dream last night about the eel type creature.

I got a ton of photos just to ensure the ID.

ok any more

This was the inspiration for the psychedelic dream - only it was a kind of water eel that then crawled out of the water.

OK enuf photos for this "load" - onto Part 2.
