Is this a Pine Beetle or a Lark Beetle (that eats the Tamarack trees)?
Definitely an Eastern Larch Beetle - good thing I killed it.
Dry conditions weaken trees and make them more vulnerable to attack. Cofort says warming trends in the climate may also help the beetles thrive.We had 40 below and lower last winter so hopefully that put a dent in these things.
"It takes about 40 below to kill them off completely and right now we haven't had those cold temperatures for quite a few years," he said.
Maybe this inspired my psychedelic dream last night about the eel type creature.

This was the inspiration for the psychedelic dream - only it was a kind of water eel that then crawled out of the water.
