And so the Silver is easily misunderstood.
And so where does this silver originate?
yang is the conscious knowledge, yin as silver is the unconscious.
vitality [qi]becomes active there and circulates (in the body) rising from the base of the backbone to the top of the head and reflecting the silvery light of the (spinal) marrow; it then drops to the throat and the viscera increasing its brightness like a full moon shining in the heart.
the five vitalities will
converge in the head and break through the cavity of
spirit (between and behind the eyes) to reach the source (of
the nervous system, pai hui) from which the positive spirit
will manifest. The brain will then be like a pond full of
golden nectar with silvery ripples.

So this is the yin qi - the quicksilver - as part of the liver qi it "flies off" normally - disconnected from Earth as Water - the Lead. So then the yin qi has to be put into the yang qi to stabilize the yin qi.
But this process is always based on the mind as the quicksilver -
