The need to be Grounded to the Earth

He told me I needed to
be sitting on the ground; he could
tell because I didn't have enough “yin”

in me when he checked me
out.

I had been practicing inside a
mobile home I was living in
temporarily next to the house I
was building. It was about three
feet above the ground. He
explained to me, “Your yin comes
from the earth and you need to
be connected to it.”
He said I
have to sit outside on the ground.

This was somewhat troubling
because where I live it snows
about twice a year and rains a
lot, so while he was telling me this
I was trying to figure how I
was going to be able to do it.

Seeking The Master Of Mo Pai - Jim McMillan

This is the instructions from qigong master John Chang to Jim McMillan.

The qigong master I took classes from shared how he used to bury his feet into the earth - to get a better grounding - while he did his standing training. The free newsletter from Spring Forest Qigong had a spring message from Chunyi Lin, repeating at least twice, the need to have the feet bare and connected to the earth - in the sand or soil.

“Where does yin ch’i come from?” Andreas asked.
“From the earth. The yin comes from the earth.
It is some kind
of field phenomenon that feeds our lifeforce. It can be blocked by
insulators. For example, if you have a carpet made from synthetic
materials in your house, the yin ch’i cannot pass through it.
That’s
not so good for your health.

So I spent the day adding adobe to the straw insulation around the ground of my teepee-tent. The idea is to have a well insulated place - it is just big enough for me to fit into for meditation and long enough to stretch out if I need to - both to stand or stretch out on the ground for sleeping. So in other words instead of cutting a hole in a tent - I built a teepee-tent made mainly out of willow branches, straw and adobe (clay mixed with hay off my land) - and it survived the winter. So I hope it survives the "improvements" I made in the last couple days. haha.

This is to be my meditation living space - when we move this Fall - although I can't stay on my land all year around - since it is just a residential tent site that is seasonal. So I think it's 4 months  a year I can not be there. But that is o.k. since my main priority is helping out my relative - and the best way I can help her out is to do qigong meditation! haha. But sometimes the help is obviously just physical labor, etc.

Also just being away from power lines and electromagnetic pollution makes a big difference in the energy - and being surrounded by animals living in the wild. Today I had two big bucks both 10 feet away from me. And they did not run away (why should they, as big bucks need not be afraid). haha.

I also saw the Flicker couple and the Veery couple was there again and I heard the tree frogs. So this land is important riparian forest wetland habitat - and I'm glad that so far I have not scared away the wildlife! But due to abrupt global warming - there were few mosquitoes. This was great for my "improvements" on the teepee-tent (whether these improvements help or not, we shall see) - but I felt sorry for the birds. Abrupt global warming is very real - and in the next five years things will dramatically change on Earth (for the worse for life).

But the power of the Earth will remain - this "grounding" energy as the yin qi. So this is what makes qigong Daoist alchemy training - from the original human culture - the trance dance T'ai Chi training - so amazing.
