Texsport Hide-A-Way Camo Hexagon tent = Mystery of the Missing Ozark Trail 2 person 8' x 7' Hexagon Dome tent? Reviewing the Hexagon tent designs: JW-7607 model

So I just got this dome tent at Goodwill for $5.50 (including my 25% off coupon for donating). Normally a tent like this - a dome pop-up tent - would have a square rectilinear base, not a hexagon!

So I was looking for the price of this tent new - it seems to have vanished? I really like that Hexagon design. So you get a higher center since there's more supporting frame rods.

https://familycamptents.com/ozark-trail-8-person-dome-tent/

So this 8 person Geodesic Hexagon is a 12 foot by 12 foot design. Pretty awesome. That compares with the current tent I purchased as the "wilderness lodge" - with vertical walls - as a 10 by 15 foot design. So with vertical walls you get a lot more actual room space.

But with the hexagon design you get better ventilation probably and probably better structural support. Although it's still just fiberglass rods and not aluminum.

So this is a "Creeper" brand - never heard of this "brand" before! It's a cheaper design - and being sold as clearance for $25 - but the same hexagon base for "2" people. Interesting.

OK I had to enlarge this Chinese brand hexagon pop-up tent image - to see what they were trying to communicate. Yep - keeps out the skeeters!! So that is a bigger pop-up - like the 8 person Ozark - but also claims it's 4 seasons (yeah maybe in China).

OK FINALLY - I find a price for the Ozark hexagon tent - on ebay for $130.!!!! Wow. So $5.50 for the same tent? quite a deal!!

Oh wait - that is a Toogh brand tent - and it's not nylon but instead polyester (longer lasting).

It has the same "hydraulic" rod system design as the Chinese brand tent. Interesting. So must be the SAME tent.

Also you can remove the floor - which is pretty awesome so you can get that Earth Yin Qi energy during meditation.

OK so far we got variations on a theme - hexagon dome for greater support so a higher center.

This is something I look forward to since the dome tent I used last summer for my "outhouse" - I got that dome tent at a different thrift store - and it was $25 and so I thought I was getting a deal! Normally it sold for $40 I think. So not a bad deal. But a $5.50 tent - that has a HIGHER center since it's a hexagon dome tent? Then I can sit in my "outhouse" composting toilet in luxury. haha.

OK another hexagon dome tent -

REI - I am a "member" of their co-op.

So this dome tent - hexagon - has insulated walls and so the asking price is $2200 - WOW - lots of money. And the square foot is the same as that Ozark 8 person dome tent.

So here is the third hexagon with that new "hydraulic" instant pop up pole system. pretty interesting.

I'm not sure the "time-saving" aspect of the design makes up for what might be a lack of strength.

So those above "pop up" hydraulic designs are $75 to $100 or more. Vid on how to set up the Hydraulic Hexagon dome tent

JW-7607 model

 So that's the model number.

Currently "sold out" on ebay.

A review!!

I have the JW-7607 which is a 2-3 (read that as two)…

Rating: rated 4 of 5 stars
Design: Freestanding dome
Sleeps: 2
Ease of Setup: Very easy. One person in less than 10 minutes
I have the JW-7607 which is a 2-3 (read that as two) person tent. I have had it for years and am thrilled with it. It has held up to kids camping in the living room and back yard, many camping trips to desert / forest / lake environments and even survived a bear "attack" with only a small tear. The bear was only checking us out really.
The only drawbacks to this tent are that there is a weather protecting flap over the door zipper that is kept in place by an elastic band which causes the flap to pull in toward the zipper and snag occasionally. It comes loose easily enough but over time this has put lots of little holes in that flap.
The other drawback is the tiny ground stakes that come with it. They won't hold up to much more than a 5 mile per hour wind. The tent held up very well to 30 mph winds but I had to use heavy duty stakes for it.
Overall this is a wonderful tent that has held up well to many years of family camping.
That's a pretty outstanding review for this cheap style of tent - almost all the other reviews say the poles break or it leaks rain, etc.

OK FINALLY I track down the original price for this tent $35 - back in 1995

So 24 years ago - this was a "new" model. I wonder when it was discontinued?

So I think we can surmise from this - a 3 pole Hexagon is a stronger design - but now we have the 2 pole "square" dome tent - a cheaper design!!

yep NO reviews of this tent on youtube despite probably a dozen reviews for their other "dome" tents. So you have the 8 person dome tent - and the smaller ones are the cheaper 2 pole rectilinear dome tent.

So that's PRETTY close to the original Ozark Trail hex dome tent size and design.

Wow - a 16 x 8 foot dome cabin design. Pretty awesome.

Lots of ventilation - the walls are pretty vertical. I wonder how it is sectioned off.

No interior diving wall - that's too bad. Since a dividing wall would keep the insects out better.

Now that's a cool tent! does it come with the wood stove jack? I bet it does!   HEX M-1950 5 MAN ARCTIC TENT

Oh it's US Army.

  $500. vintage.
It has a white cotton liner for additional insulation and to keep frost off of the inside of
the tent.

COMPLETE U.S. 5 MEN ARCTIC TENT, CANVAS, 13' DIAMETER, 4" STOVE JACK, INCL. LINER, POLE, ROPES & GUY STAKES. This tent ships UPS. Add to ...
Stove-pipe opening with silicone rubber molded ring built in one side of the tent near the eave. When not in use, the stove-pipe opening has a flap

This is actually a really good deal - it's CANVAS and includes a stove jack?

Wow - cool hexagon design.

He said they go up real fast and the fabric treatment drips down setting sleeping bags etc on fire thus spreading it. You have no chance to save anything so get out immediately if it catches fire.
yeah I'd rather build a Kang bed-stove heater out of adobe.

Texsport Hexagon Dome tent - looks to be the continuation of the Ozark Trail hex dome tent!! vid - Measures: 7'8" x 6'8" with 48 inch height

 SAME dimensions exactly.

Mystery SOLVED - this is the SAME tent.

Ozark Trail is that it is a brand name and not a company. What does that mean I hear you ask? It means that any tent manufacturer can sell their products under the Ozark Trail branded label. Of course they need approval but it’s not a signal manufacturer.

$50 new.

another review youtube

A THIRD vid review - none of these people realize it's the SAME as the Ozark Trail hexagon dome tent from 1995!!!

OK I SET UP the Ozart Trail "vintage" hex dome tent - and now I'll upload a photo.

This is a VERY cool tent - they don't make tents like this anymore! Or is it the SAME "hook" design at the Texsport? I'll have to compare....

OK so notice how the poles are attached by "hooks" - whereas today's dome tents use a nylon sleeve system. I like this HOOK set up - it's much easier then trying to "slide" the fiberglass rods that come apart.

Yep - the Texsport has those "nylon sleeves" that slide the poles through - and they come apart inside the sleeves as you slide - very annoying.

Otherwise it's the SAME tent. The older construction style is better - with the hooks.

Amazon has tons of reviews on this Hexsport tent - let's see if anyone notices it's the exact same as the Ozark Trail tent from 1995!!

Years ago we bought this tent, and the new texsport hexagon tent is worst than the old. Is made by worst materials, the outer layer is worst! The zipper is not the same than the old, and the first day the pole tent was broken!
So strangely - the previous owner left only THIS in the tent - Chinese fortune with "disease" as the word - so as if I need to heal disease using Chinese fortune magic? haha
