Now it's on ebay and goodwill auction - around $10 plus shipping.
I got it for $9 minus 25% off. So about $7 with tax.
There's no "light" indicating the cooler is working but when the power is working then the radio does turn on. Also I could feel the cool temp kicking in - unless it was my imagination. So I put some room temperature water bottles in there - to see if this works. I also McGyvered two cords from my "box 'O cords" for the generator - since the LC cooler did not come with any power cord. I just like the novelty of a little mini-refrigerator. I wonder how the cooling works - if there is coolant inside?
https://www.hunker.com/13409863/how-do-portable-refrigerators-workMust be Thermoelectric. It feels like it is cooling from the bottom and I suppose it just assumes that any hot air will just be lost by radiation.
This vid shows the "manual" - it's just a one page overview - and LC doesn't even seem to be the brand - this one is "Coca-cola"
Another vid has the same cooler with a Beer label - so it's some kind of novelty promotional item with various product labels. So the bottom of the cooler is now cold - after a couple hours - but the inside of the cooler is NOT cold at all. DANG. stupid design. Doesn't work.
Somebody is asking $40 for that thing on E-bay. I think the idea is you put in items that are ALREADY cold and since the bottom is cold on the outside - that prevents heat from getting in. So it's a kind of "assisted" cooler.
I figure - this way I don't have to deal with ICE when storing shrooms. I'll have to find something that actually works. I can just plug in a bunch of mini-coolers to the generator. And then plug the generator into the car as I drive into town to sell the shrooms. I called my secret market connection and I was told to bring in the shrooms when I harvest them FRESH. So that's why I was thinking of having to use ice. If I can use generator powered coolers - then no worry about ice melting getting the shrooms wet.
Our 12V coolers and warmers keep the contents at the desired temperature using only a small amount of power.https://www.12volt-travel.com/12-volt-coolers-c-779.html
So there are newer thermoelectric deisgns - bigger with fans - drawing 50 watts.
plugs directly into your 12volt outlet to cool down to 40° below the surrounding temperature. Includes the New & Improved quiet operation, extra long life fan motor.
No more trips to the convenience store for ice, and no more ice chilled soggy food. This PowerChill 12 volt cooler holds up to 44 12oz cans and the new motor design provides quiet, long lasting performance. So that's a possibility - $140. A lot more than $7.
AFTER THREE HOURS THE WATER WAS VERY SLIGHTLY COOL!!
NEXT Glamping item.
Glamping is term that has arisen to define the concept of 'glamorous camping.
I used this to air pump up the mattress. So I figured whoever donated the mattress also donated this air pump with it - they were not together on the shelf but in the same general area of the store. The pump is designed to pump up air mattresses and it worked great - again I had to McGyver the cord connections. It's actually a 12 amp power draw but my generator has a DC 12 amp limit - so it was able to handle power draw.
So the pump retails now used - it's from a 1989 design sold by our local big old retail store Daytons or Dayton Hudson - so it's about $15 online and I got it for $4 - 25% off. So about $3.25 plus tax.
Third Item:
INTEX Comfort-Rest Downy Airbed
Wow now they sell with a BUILT IN electric pump! Really?
I don't know if I would want to sleep on a "built in" electric air pump....
I mean sleeping on plastic is bad enough.... But I figure - if I AM sleeping in plastic in the tent - the uneven ground does give some hellish back sore pain - so might as well GLAMP it up.
OK a Cabela's review said it didn't hold air through the night. You DO have to be careful with the air cover - it has two parts. So you have to make sure to stick the first part in and then screw the cap on. Also this mattress is PVC and so it OFF-GASES toxic fumes. NOT at all what you want to sleep on. But it also says it's a "flocked top"....
Most flocked beds are meant for use when you're traveling or camping. The mattress typically has a bottom made of a thick or extra durable vinyl for exterior conditions, such as on the ground or inside a tent. The mattress top is made of a special flocked velvet-like coating that eliminates the need for sheets, though most people use this air bed with sleeping bags anyway. It's always a good idea to set a tarp on the ground to place the bed upon, to prevent punctures from sharp rocks or twigs.
It sells new for $30 still. Mine has a big stain on it - looks like they cleaned a stain with baking soda that then left a baking soda stain. I sprayed it with vinegar as disinfectant - and it got rid of the stain quite a bit. But as it was drying in the sun, then the off-gassing fumes were noticeable from the vinegar spray breaking down the plastic a bit.
That 'new shower curtain smell'? It's toxic, study says - LA Times
Jun 13, 2008 - Vinyl shower curtains sold at major retailers across the country emit toxic chemicals that have been linked to serious health problems, ...
So after I moved it then the fumes dissipated. I just tried it out and it is super comfy!!! So I think with good ventilation - as long as my face is not towards the mattress (which it won't be) - then this will be a well-appreciated break from uneven ground back sores.
So I got it for $7 plus 25% off so about $5.30 with tax.
So I spent just over $16 with tax and the items still retail for $65 - so a savings of $50.
Pretty good Goodwill Glamping Unboxing Extravaganza!!
Vinyl chloride, which is a major building block of PVC, is a known human carcinogen that causes liver cancer, Lester said.
"PVC is just bad from cradle to cradle," said Martha Dina Arguello, executive director of the Los Angeles chapter of Physicians for Social Responsibility. "It's a mess when you create, it's a mess when you get rid of it, and it's off-gassing when you're using it."yep - it's a carcinogenic camping air mattress!!! Great.
Too bad since it's very comfy!!
I'll guess I'll just use it if there's a NICE BREEZE through whatever tent I'm in.

So they're about $70.
