Super-exponential growth aka Terminal Overshoot: William Rees responds to the renewable energy fanatics

Consider that, if it were possible for wind and solar electricity to replace just half of the present FF use by 2030 (which would require that many difficult-to-electrify uses of FF actually become electrified), then the equivalent of ~1.1 times the total existing global stock of wind and solar installations would have to be constructed each year for the next nine years [4], i.e., wind/solar would require, every year, new energy and material inputs approximately equivalent to the entire quantity used by the sector in its entire history to date. Over the next nine years, until 2030, the demand for new energy and materials would be approximately ten times as much as has been consumed to date. This also assumes no growth on a planet projecting at least half a billion more people and a 27% increase in energy demand by 2030.

Caption for the above graph - so it covers 200 years as industrial civilization.

Overshoot is a potentially terminal condition, the only “fix” for which is significantly reduced consumption and populations, not ten-fold increases in demand for rare materials involving even further ecological degradation from the mining, processing, and refining of declining quality ore.

Fthenakis et al., side-step the fact that metallurgical grade silicon can be extracted only by smelting quartz (SiO2). This smelting process variously involves heating quartz, coal or coking coal, and charcoal/woodchip, clearly requiring large inputs of fossil and contemporary carbon. Coking coal is produced by heating coal in an oxygen-limited environment with wood to burn off impurities, leaving behind high-carbon coke (this process is nearly identical to that of making charcoal from wood). Smelting one ton of metallurgical silicon from about 2.5 tons of quartz typically consumes ~1.4 tons of coal and coke and an equivalent quantity of woodchips or charcoal [5]. This, of course, results in significant emissions.

 Algae could capture those emissions.

At approximately 4% of the global primary energy, solar and wind have a long way to go, and time is running out.

yep. Algae is the future of life on Earth - one way or another.

We argue that the lust for wind and solar is a costly diversion that delays society’s acceptance of, and planning for, a low-energy, low-consumption, and low-population future.

Prior to the dawn of agriculture eight to ten millennia ago, humans accounted for less than 1%, and wild mammals 99%, of mammalian biomass on Earth. Today, H. sapiens constitute 36%, and our domestic livestock another 60%, of a much-expanded mammalian biomass, compared with only 4% for all wild species combined [9 –11 ]. McRae et al. [12] estimate that the populations of non-human vertebrate species declined by 58% between 1970 and 2012 alone. Freshwater, marine, and terrestrial vertebrate populations declined by 81%, 36%, and 38%, respectively, and invertebrate populations fell by about 50%

Mass Extinction of Species crisis is accelerating!

, 50% of all FFs ever burned have been consumed in just the past 30 years (as much as 90% since the early 1940s) as super-exponential growth has taken hold [13,14 ]...

"This means that between 1820 and 1950, the CO2 concentration rose by about 0.24 ppm
per year but between 1950 and 2023, it rose by 1.55 ppm per year, which is a 6–7-fold rate
increase. The rate of this CO2 increase has continued to rise and for the year 2023–2024, it
had reached 2.84 ppm/yr."

Line graphs showing how atmospheric carbon dioxide amounts have risen at roughly the same pace as carbon dioxide emissions

https://www.climate.gov/news-features/understanding-climate/climate-change-atmospheric-carbon-dioxide

By 1997 (when annual consumption was 40% less than in 2021), humanity was
already burning FFs containing about 422 times the net amount of carbon fixed by pho-
tosynthesis globally each year [15 ].
Between 1800 and 2021, atmospheric carbon dioxide
concentrations increased by 48%, from 280 ppm to approximately 415 ppm

They found that about twice as much carbon sinks into the ocean per year than previously estimated.

The human enterprise now uses the bio-productive and assimilative capacities of 1.75 Earth equivalents [16].
Clearly, removing FFs from the agricultural system would result in significantly
reduced output. Even if a global one-child policy were enacted soon, we would still have
eight to 3.5 billion mouths to feed by the end of the century
[91 ].

A reduction in energy means there will be a resurgence in demand for human muscle
and draft animals.

Plague outbreaks invariably end in collapse under the pressure of social stress or as crucial resources are depleted [104].

In many respects, this endeavor will resemble Polanyi’s [112 ] Great Transformation (about the emergent dominance of neoliberal market economics) in reverse, all contained within an envelope of ecological necessity.

Wow someone else actually read Karl Polanyi's Great Transformation book? I was just promoting it the other day!

In one momentous episode, a heterotrophic eukaryotic cell captured a cyanobacterium to create the first photosynthetic algal cell. This green alga was much larger and faster growing than
cyanobacteria and was also the precursor of all of our land plants [25].
Over the next two billion years, as photosynthetic algae thrived and diversified, they
sequestered ever more carbon (some of which later accumulated as natural gas and oil
deposits as discussed below). These algae also released more oxygen in a second GOE
that further supported the evolution of large multicellular life forms, including the earliest
animals. By the end of the Proterozoic, about 800 million years ago, the increased rate of
biological carbon sequestration, mainly by algae, had lowered atmospheric CO2 levels to
about 1000 ppm.
This value is not far from some of the climatic model estimates for likely
CO2 levels at the end of the current century [ 55 ,56 ].
So we're taking Earth back in time 800 million years ago!

In this section, we will focus on the much shorter time span of the Holocene, which only encompasses 0.00024% of the Earth’s history. Despite its short duration in terms of geological time, the Holocene has been highly
consequential for humans and, increasingly, for the rest of the Earth, both biotic and abiotic.
In particular, it has witnessed the development of agriculture and other technologies that
have perturbed the carbon cycle and are now having planet-wide effects

the formation of oil and gas from phytoplankton is less than 0.01% efficient.

the estimated efficiency of electricity generation from biomass (21%) is an intermediate
value from a range of estimates of the efficiency of current commercial technologies (Larson and Marrison, 1997

So he, Jeff S. Dukes, published a 2020 paper stating 1997 carbon emissions were 422 times the carbon sequestration rate per year net primary productivity on Earth. But since oil and coal are 86% from phytoplankton - it was then discovered that ocean algae is twice as effective at storing carbon. So That means the 1997 emissions were closer to 200 times the carbon sequestration per year. thanks

Details are in the caption following the image

The reasoning underlying such concerns is that due to a warming-driven increase in stratification, surface nutrient supply and thus phytoplankton production will be reduced. However, a warming-driven increase in stratification and a more sluggish ventilation will also reduce the loss side of the BCP (Bopp & Le Quéré, 2009; Henson et al., 2022) so that the rate of reemergence to the surface ocean mixed layer of remineralized carbon and subsequent outgassing is reduced (DeVries et al., 2017).

Carbonate production by marine fish could be 2.7 to 9.5PgC  greater than previously estimated....Our estimates suggest global new carbonate production by marine fish ranges between 0.33 and 9.03 Pg CaCO3 yr−1, potentially making fish one of the dominant carbonate producers in the sea.

"PgC" (petagrams of carbon) and "gigaton" (GtC) are essentially interchangeable units

Sonic Cannons, Metamaterial Acoustic Prism & Acoustic Fats Inner Ear connection as secret of "quasi telepathy" quantum nonlocal biology

The hollow jaws of dolphins are filled with specialised ‘acoustic fats’ that connect to the inner ear and are considered as the main sound receiving structures.

from the academic journal Sound and Vibration

a directional receiver at high echolocation frequencies (20 -150 kHz).

Yes but ultrasound also causes quantum nonlocal superradiance phonons in the microtubules!!

showed frequency responses shifting in spectral peaks as a function of the incoming signal angle at whistle fundamental frequencies. These spectral responses were found similar to those of an in air acoustic metamaterial leaky wave antenna for which signature whistles were presented. Therefore, it is suggested that the odontocete jaw, at low frequencies, might be analogous to an acoustic prism aiding to resolve the direction of arrival of whistle emissions.

inner acoustic fats surrounded by bone work as a waveguide with periodic structures such as teeth and/or mental foramens. This configuration would not only allow for an efficient sound transmission to the inner ear, but could also help to differentiate the angle of arrival of a wide frequency range of acoustic signals using a compact structure.

The jaw bone of our ancient mammalian shrew ancestors became our inner ear... Flexing the middle ear muscle causes ultrasound piezoelectric activation towards the pineal gland....this creates tummo yoga heat through vagus nerve activation.

Meanwhile the "siren mode" acoustic LRAD weapon is now being used against mass demonstrations...

n "siren mode" (called an "alert tone" by Genasys[5]), primarily for usage in emergency situations, has also been used for crowd control. In this mode, it allows sound transmission at around 2,000–4,000 Hertz, which causes maximum discomfort for the people targeted, as this is the frequency range at human hearing is most sensitive.[
LRAD was used for maximum psychological warfare duing the 15 minutes of silence by 100,000 protesters in Serbia this spring, 2025 - vid playlist

The Iron metallurgy origins of the cult of Yahweh, ties to the god Baal & Asherah: Nissim Amzallag

Epigraphic discoveries, such as the mention of “YHWH and his Asherah” in
the sites of Kuntillet Ajrud and Khirbet el Qom (dated to the ninth and eighth
centuries BC), challenged the idea of a monotheistic religion in Israel in the
monarchic period.22 A comparison of archaeological remains from the whole
Southern Levant confirmed that the religion of ancient Israel did not substantially
differ from that of its neighbors (Edom, Moab, Ammon, the Phoenicians,
and the Philistines) until the end of the monarchic period.

This new book is very well written on very detailed archaeological research.

YHWH and the Origins of Ancient Israel - Insights from the Archaeological Record

2023, Cambridge University Press

The Divine Council of Yahweh makes his monotheism problematic!!
The divine council is mentioned in the Book of
Job (Job 1:6–12). Proverbs, another late opus, includes explicit references to a
female divine being, an Asherah-like goddess personifying Wisdom and present
beside YHWH at the early time of creation (Prov 8:22–31). Malachi, the
last prophetic book, includes an oracle far from any “mature” form of monotheism:
“Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. And
the lord (hāʾa ̄dȏn) whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; And the messenger
of the covenant (ûmal ʾak̄ habe˘rît) in whom you delight, behold, he is coming, says
YHWH Sebaoth” (Mal 3:1).49 This verse does not only introduce the figure of
the divine emissary of YHWH, it even claims that this secondary divine being
is worshipped by the Israelites, and it even considers the Jerusalem temple as
his dominion. Finally, Daniel, one of the latest books, is also the source where
divine beings others than YHWH have the highest importance in the Bible.
The multiplicity of divine beings, a so-called primitive character, extends
to postbiblical compositions.
by 130 BCE the Romans accused the Jews of ....a cult of Jupiter/Yahweh/Dionysus
But the Romans did not expel the Jews for propagating the
cult of YHWH, as expected. Rather, they charged them with “infecting”
the Roman customs with the cult of Jupiter-Sabazius, a Thracian version of
Dionysus.77 The appellation mixing Jupiter with Sabazius confirms that the
subversive god promoted by the Jews was not a minor Thracian deity, but a
god acknowledged for his highest status, as YHWH was in Israel.
This identification of YHWH with Sabazius is so incompatible with the
current classification of Judaism as monotheistic that it was interpreted as a
scribal error.78 Alternatively, scholars suggested that Sabazius here designates
not the Thracian Dionysus, but rather YHWH’s attribute Sebaoth.79 However,
these explanations ignore the existence of a Thracian sect identifying YHWH
with Dionysus, and mixing Jews and Pagans.80 They also ignore the parallel
between YHWH and Dionysus stressed by Plutarch,81 a priest of Apollo well
initiated in mystery cults, and well informed about the Jewish religion.82 This
is why the claim of homology between YHWH and Dionysus should be considered
reliable. Many parallels between the two deities confirm it.8
If Yahweh is Dionysus that makes Jesus the equivalent of Apollo/Pythagoras! Especially fitting due to the metallurgy origins of Pythagoreanism and Yahwism.
The metallurgical background of ancient Yahwism is a fitting
example of how reexamining past assumptions can produce fresh and
previously ignored dimensions within old debates.87 Suggesting that the god
of Israel was formerly the esoteric deity of the Canaanite guild of metallurgists
challenges our current representations of the ancient Yahwism.
Very fascinating.
Julius Lewy, for example, assumed that "[t]he Kenites and related tribes worshipped Yahu or YHWH but they did not know the origin of that worship and so they attributed it to their ancestor Cain, the first smith or hammerer. The Israelites who roamed the deserts, lying between Egypt and Edom, learned the name of this fire-and-storm-god and adapted their
worship to their own socio-economic conditions and religio-cultural traditions."91
Postulating that the Qenites ignored the origin of YHWH is surprising,
however. The metalworkers were known in antiquity and in traditional societies
for the conservatism of their traditions and beliefs.92 Furthermore, being
highly specialized artisans, we expect their main deity to be closely related to
their craft. Finally, the taboo on agriculture among the Qenites (identifiable
in Gen 4:11–14 and in Jer 35:8–10) renders unlikely the “transformation” of
a storm-god into their patron deity.
The first part (Chapters 1–4) explores the historical context of
the emergence of Israel, identified here as a part of a global movement
of emancipation from the authority of foreign powers in the Southern
Levant. This section also shows how the renewal of the copper industry
from the Arabah fueled this movement and contributed to its success. This
contextualization may explain why YHWH became so famous: This god
formerly sponsored the production of copper in the Southern Levant, a
reality exposed in the second part (Chapters 5–6). This singularity of the
former figure of YHWH will help us, in the third part (Chapters 7–9), to
reinterpret the nature of the early theology of Israel, and to clarify what
distinguished it from all the other South Levantine nations participating in
this movement of emancipation.

This completely mirrors the development of Islam as the teaching of metallurgy by the Jews to the Arabs...

Denis Noble on the secret of consciousness

harnessing the randomness of water? Or something deeper!

@metaontology

I believe stocasticity in the primary resonance of a cell is the effect of Fourier transforms on the frequency resulting from quantum superpositioning electromagnetic fields Thanks for this brilliant interview!
4
I need to analyze each individual concept in your statement and establish its bottom-up linkage to fully understand the overall idea conveyed in your statement. If your time permits, can you please elucidate it a bit more?
quantum nonlocality is not based on complex Fourier Transforms due to noncommutativity being nonlocal. Heisenberg discovered the "order of overtones" changes the frequency of photon radiation emissions. This is not just based on observational data - it's actually a nonlocal noncommutative time-frequency process. watch Fields Medal math professor Alain Connes lecture on youtube "Music of Shapes" for details.

time is inherently asymmetric and nonlocal as Roger Penrose realizes. See quantum physics professor Basil J. Hiley's lecture to Penrose and Hameroff - in 2021 on Emmy mind-matter symposium website (youtube vid that is unlisted). Hiley points out that asymmetric time or noncommutativity completely changes quantum biology (see his 2022 book chapter on quantum consciousness).

Who were the Paleoamericans? A False positive? A few Amazonian tribes have current "alleles" that are Australian aborigine!

Recent analyses have also shown that some groups in Brazil share more alleles with Australasians (indigenous New Guineans, Australians, and Andaman Islanders) () and an ∼40,000 BP individual from northern China () than do other Central and South Americans. Such patterns suggest that these groups do not entirely descend from a single homogeneous population and instead derive from a mixture of populations, one of which, Population Y, bore a distinctive affinity to Australasians. Notably, our study includes data from individuals such as those from the Lapa do Santo site who have a cranial morphology known as “Paleoamerican,” argued to indicate two distinct New-World-founding populations (). Here, we test directly the hypothesis that a Paleoamerican cranial morphology was associated with a lineage distinct from the one that contributed to other Native Americans (whether the proposed Population Y or another).

https://www.cell.com/cell/fulltext/S0092-8674(18)31380-1?wpmobileexternal=true

Our failure to find significant evidence of Australasian or Paleolithic East Asian affinities in any of the ancient Central and South American individuals raises the question of what ancient populations could have contributed the Population Y signal in Surui and other Amazonian groups and increases the previously small chance that this signal—despite the strong statistical evidence for it—was a false-positive. A priority is to search for the Population Y signal in additional ancient genomes.

My reply to Sam Tripoli making fun of Terrence Howard claiming to have solved the Three-Body Problem of chaos science

Poincare - he actually first solved E=Mc(squared) but he did not include relativity of spacetime yet. Einstein was inspired by Poincare. Poincare was the father of the three-body problem.

yes good point about the supercomputer. Supercomputers do iterations without a "trajectory" - meaning without a deductive framework for analysis. Chaos science relies inherently on commutative geometry. The secret of Terrence's original claim about squaring and multiplying is actually noncommutative math - but he doesn't know that term. I wrote a paper about Terrence's original claim - it's on my "academia" edu site for free reading.

So my guess is - kind of like flat earth is really due to a hologram or the sun is spiraling the Earth if we consider the rotation of the galaxy - we can reduce the three body problem to just energy as frequency and time. All matter is made of photons but there is a secret negative frequency and time-reversed nonlocal force to photons (and thus matter also). You can read astrophysics professor Paul S. Wesson's final papers for details - he realized his 5D black hole model of the universe was actually the same as Louis de Broglie's Law of Phase Harmony and Wesson realized this also explained spiritual phenomenon. He died a couple years later after those papers got published.

On the supercomputers - math professor Steve Strogatz who is the world's expert on chaos science points out that chaos is really about time while fractals are about space. Strogatz also points out that due to supercomputers science is inherently authoritarian because we just have to rely on the iterations of the computer programs without reality having any predictable trajectory. Ironically this is also true of our abrupt global warming crisis as Professor Robert Nadeau points out in his "Environmental Endgame" book (and this key point of his book was ignored by the Rothschild Economist journal review of his book).

Strogatz also points out that any fractal is actually just at Platonic ideal that only exists in computers and not true reality of Nature. The same, logically, can be said of chaos science since again both rely on the inherently wrong Platonic commutative geometry mathematics (of a real number spacetime continuum). So this is probably the point that Terrence is trying to convey although I had no idea. But if it's connected to his first claim about the squaring and multiplying of one then it makes sense. For example in Matrices math, as I recently uploaded a vid about - the imaginary number and the negative imaginary number both square to negative one. So this is assumed to be an "Identity Matrix" as commutative geometry science - thereby allowing the conversion of nonlocal quantum reality into classical physics.

But as Math professor Lou Kauffman points out - along with Fields Medal math professor Alain Connes and the recently deceased quantum physics professor Basil J. Hiley - and also Eddie Oshins (the physicist who worked at SLAC) - time is an inherent algebraic nonlocal process that is asymmetric or noncommutative. Sir Roger Penrose also makes this point as well. Meaning the one and negative one exist at the same time due to the time required to make any external measurement. So the algebra equation X=(negative one divided by x) is the equivalent of the Cretin's Liar paradox. This is probably what Terrence is getting into again in regards to the three body problem and chaos resonance.
Another interesting tidbit about chaos math is that the God of Time is Saturn but Saturn is both Chronos and Kronos - one being linear time in terms of 4D spacetime (as defined in relativity) - the other being nonlocal time of the future and past overlapping as in the Kundalini ouroboros.

So astronomers discovered that in deep time there is a cyclical resonance of Saturn and Jupiter (the god of space) - and this resonance is at a 2 to 5 natural Pythagorean ratio. You can double the 2 as the octave of 1 and 5/4 is the cube root of two approximation as the extension of the Pythagorean Tetraktys (read Stuart Isacoff's book Temperament for how 5/4 and the cube root of two ushered in the Renaissance). So when this resonance of Saturn and Jupiter occurs then it causes a massive asteroid to get dislodged and hit earth causing a mass extinction of life. If you read the book "In the Blink of An Eye" you realize the Cambrian Explosion of Life over 500 million years ago was due to three dimensional depth of spatial perception evolving from the eye capturing photons. So when Jupiter and Saturn resonate wiping out bifocal life on Earth we lose our ability to perceptually be controlled by the illusion of 4D spacetime on Earth.

In contrast all oil and coal is from algae that in blue light photosynthesis has 100% energy transfer as quantum nonlocal negentropy in pure time with no spatial dimension. This self-amplifies into the illusion of 4D classical spacetime. As Sir Roger Penrose emphasizes protoconsciousness exists before the Big Bang and after the acceleration of spacetime via matter at the end of the Universe as highly coherent asymmetric time with no spatial scale - no size.
