My high school buddy made fun of me for promoting "action at a distance" as the secret of my Fundamental Force manifesto in 1996. Turns out I was correct!

and so a "privileged" reference frame is chosen. But hold on!!

awesome interview with Professor Jean Bricmont

This lack of locality of the world. What to do with it? Well that's it. We have to deal with it.

Because of the nonlocality expressed by Bell....that's why Einstein didn't like it.... it very much goes against the theory of relativity, which sort of thinks of the world of being made of separate parts that don't influence each other... at least that's what Einstein thought and that's ruled out. So you have to introduce something nonlocal and once you do it's not clear what relativity means.
