Not sure if it worth it to remove the whole vehicle from the frame if this needs to be repaired...
2004 Colorado break in half. Looking closely at his frame, it was completely rusted out just ahead of the rear spring mount.

Problem with putting undercoating or oil inside the box frame is, unless you do this from day 1, all you are doing is putting oil over dirt and stuff that is already in there... The dirt is what holds the moisture against the frame and rusts it out from the inside.
Granted if its really thick dirt, its not going to soak all the way in, but that's a cleaning problem to take care of first. It needs to be periodically refreshed, and a little bit goes a long way.
I hesitate to use paint since I find it eventually chipping away with rust underneath. I use direct-to-metal (DTM) epoxy spray during body repair (I'm a hobbiest, not a pro), which is very good for general prep of panels and suspension parts, and generally cheap if you have the equipment already
Wow - they just cut out a sidewall section and welded in a new section.
Yeah you gotta remove the body from the frame for this part.
1/8 inch (0.120 inches) thick is the steel...
A double layer in there where the bump stop is!!
That's what I'm wondering.
.125 CR A36 CNC laser cut and bent steel. The wrap around design bridges the arch in the frame rail and supports the frame at it's weakest spot.
removing fuel tank recommended
Slowly lower the fuel tank down a couple
inches so you can loosen the hose clamp on the filler tube and remove the wiring on the fuel pump.
Wow this happened nearby me ten years ago!! SAME frame as my vehicle - torn in half in same spot I am looking at.

2004 GMC Canyon Ext. Cab Z71, it cracked in the same exact place just in front of the leaf spring shackle on both sides of the truck. Extensive rust on the entire frame. Holes inside the leaf spring shackle repaired as well. Half of the front section of the spare tire carrier rotted away,
My truck had no body rust but right where the leaf spring mount on driver side of frame rotted out with rust so bad it was getting ready to break off and there was no good metal for a good fix.I couldn't haul a load of marshmallows in it.I even thought about buying a new frame for it.I actually found one on ebay, but for over a thousand dollars i decided to just buy a new 2019 colorado 4x4 wt ext cab that i use fluid film on the frame religiously.
so 30 vids on frame welding repair kits
In particular the rear upper and lower control arm mounts and the inner part of the frame rail by the catalytic converter.
Already had those chassis repair kits parts welded in!!
