Wow I didn't know they spend the winter in Central America! That's a long migration! Or maybe ours were just in the southern US.
Strangely only ONE video of many have the call or "winnowing" well recorded. Last night I got to listen to this melodious winnowing all night long.
He "pushes air over the tail feathers" while flying high to attract a female - and this is done at night.
Here's the AIR sound - not sure I heard that.
I heard the calling out for sure. Probably the AIR sound also.
Yes I find it inspiring as a fellow male to be surrounded by males in the Spring working hard to attract a mate. So I figure if they can work hard then I can work hard at inoculating mushroom logs. haha.
Also I had to do a bit of Hermit Hut work.
