(see the cited book for a preview - as cited by the comment/question I received - thanks)That book is based on this response of Ramana Maharshi
He [Ramana Maharshi] also indicated the Self of the
transition from sleep to the waking state as the ideal for realisation.
He was requested to explain the same.
Sri Bhagavan graciously answered: The Self is pure consciousness in
sleep; it evolves as aham (‘I’) without the idam (‘this’) in the transition
stage; and manifests as aham (‘I’) and idam (‘this’) in the waking state.
The individual’s experience is by means of aham (‘I’) only. So he must aim
at realisation in the way indicated (i.e., by means of the transitional ‘I’).
Otherwise the sleep-experience does not matter to him. If the transitional
‘I’ be realised the substratum is found and that leads to the goal.
Viveka Chudamani says, Vijnana
kose vilasatyajasram (He is always shining forth in the intellectual
sheath, vijnana kosa). Tripura Rahasya and other works point out that the interval between two consecutive sankalpas (ideas or thoughts) represent the pure aham (‘I’). Therefore holding on to the pure ‘I’, one should have the Prajnanaghana for aim, and there is the vritti present
in the attempt.
Being made up of knowledge alone how is He
to be experienced? Experience is always with vijnana. Therefore the
pure ‘I’ of the transitional stage must be held for the experience of the
Prajnanaghana.
In the transitional state, the aham (‘I’) is suddha (pure),
because idam (‘this’) is suppressed. Aham (‘I’) predominates.
‘Why is not that pure ‘I’ realised now or even remembered by us? Because of
want of acquaintance (parichaya) with it. It can be recognised only if it is
consciously attained. Therefore make the effort and gain consciously.
Yes I have read from former students of Mantak Chia that his own level of awakening is actually not with a "fully open" third eye. So the "top down" energy healing does occur in the Daoist tradition as my own teacher does that, .......... of http://springforestqigong.com
So in terms of science, ...... states he does not practice tantra as the frequency of energy taken in from the female is too low of a frequency and then it has to be transmuted into a higher frequency; whereas the energy sent out by the male via the third eye is a higher frequency energy. Also tanta is limited to the "realm of form." There is a good article on this by Bill Bodri, a student of a Ch'an meditation master, Nan, Huai-chin.
http://www.meditationexpert.com/meditation-techniques/m_sexual_tantra.html
So the Shakti tradition that you speak of, from India, is also practiced by own teacher but the problem is that Westerners will often then pull this energy down in frequency - due to the Westerners not understanding how to maintain the high frequency purification. So the Taoists "standing active energy" training or Tai Chi or trance dancing - this technique along with the deep fast breathing - the Quick Fire or tummo breathing - these are to enable the male to then sublimate the water above the fire.
The meditation of "turning the light around" including the circulation of the eyes is then the means to purify the jing by combining the yin qi (of the blood) and yang qi (of the lecithin or neurohormones) to create the Yuan Qi as the formless awareness of the Advaita tradition.
So the pineal gland converts the blood into lecithin but quantum biology shows that biophotons plays a role in this. Western science still considers biophotons to be simply a byproduct of "redox" reactions and so therefore not fundamental to the consciousness of a person. But the work of quantum biology via Stuart Hameroff and Roger Penrose (and others) argues that the biophotons are in fact inherent to the "pi resonance" molecules (like tryptophan also found in plants).
So then the formless awareness of nondualism is actually this inherent "negative entropy" as Schroedinger postulated in his "What is Life?" book - meaning that the "negentropy" is energy-information from the future as virtual photons. So this is a type of anti-gravity or negative pressure that can be stored in the body and is also felt in the third eye - as a kind of inherent black hole.
I actually just read about this last night - an Indian physicist postulating such a quantum black hole model for the third eye - and I posted this on my blog.
https://arxiv.org/abs/0704.1054
So the paradox of the formless nondualism - as Ramana Maharshi emphasized - is that it is beyond any astral realm and so as Poonjaji emphasized - this "formless awareness" is also the "space between our thoughts." So Ramana Maharshi emphasizes that while the mind as light is used as the means to turn the light around (for a Sattva state of purification) then the Ether itself as formless awareness or the Self is actually not the light.
This paradox is explained in "relativistic quantum" physics as the "hypertube" of light or the hidden relativistic mass of light - also called the "supermomentum" of light or the "noncommutative phase" of spacetime itself as a kind of negative entropy or negative pressure energy of light.
Because frequency is inverse to time therefore the higher the frequency of the light then there is a higher energy as antigravity - this is explained by the Law of Phase Harmony by de Broglie. So due to relativity as a particle goes towards the speed of light therefore time gets bigger as time slows down but due to quantum physics this particle also goes up in frequency of energy. So therefore logically there HAS to be a "negative" frequency to compensate for the increase in time and also a "reverse time" as inverse to the frequency going up.
In terms of meditation as the formless awareness - this means that there is a constant "splitting up" of the external and internal frequency of light as a holographic interaction. So the third eye is an electrogravitic transducer - such that an external lower frequency is then reflected or experienced internally - as a frequency of light energy.
So for example if someone externally is angry then via the third eye and heart - and the central channel of the body - then for the healer their liver will get hot! Or if someone is depressed - then the lungs will be felt to be damaged.
So the detection of a lower frequency "yin qi" emotional blockage is inherent to the healing process of someone else via the formless awareness. The Healing energy itself is impersonal as the Yuan Qi but via our mind and body then the energy is split up into the yang qi and yin qi via the pineal gland.
So then for example if a male is lusting to ejaculate - by which I mean they are lusting after someone else's energy so that they, themselves, can ejaculate - then this is a very low frequency of light that pulls the energy down via the stress sympathetic nervous system. So in terms of tantra then a male healer has to NOT have lust triggered as that is a subconscious trigger of the sympathetic nervous system. This is a type of "pre-trigger" via the biophoton signals to the lower body.
So with our eyes open then our vision is processed FIRST as a subconscious biophoton trigger and this is why the male can not control the lust. Poonjaji complained about this with his students - in India - the Westerners just constantly end up using the Shakti energy for lust. Sri Aurobindo also had this problem with the Western students at his ashram.
So in the original human culture, the San Bushmen, this N/om energy is mainly used to heal the females. So the male maintains the "staying power" via the all night dancing with the thigh muscles sore. As the Yuan Qi builds up then it is a full body transformation called "immortal breathing" or "fetal breathing" so that the top of the skull gets soft. The bones get soft and pliable like a baby and the centers of the feet and hands pulsate or "breathe" with the formless awareness energy.
For most people then we go through life just based on the subconscious separation of the formless awareness via the right side of the heart, that Ramana Maharshi called the "secret pinhole" to formless awareness. In science this is known as the right side vagus nerve to the heart. So the deeper we go into meditation then the stronger the right side vagus nerve activation. As I have pointed out on the interwebs - I discovered a 1948 edition of Ramana Maharshi's book, "Who Am I?" - that is published directly from the Ashram - and when I touched the book then I got a Shakti charge. And that book indeed shows an image of the kundalini rising up the spine and then down the front to the heart. So Ramana Maharshi did teach that this kundalini also had to rise up from below - but the Western advaita tradition tries to ignore this.
Western males try to maintain a left brain dominance due to the strong Platonic basis of our mathematical logic education for science. So the problem is that the right side vagus nerve goes to the left side of the brain but the left side vagus nerve does NOT go to the right side of the brain!! Therefore a right brain dominant approach is required and this right side vagus nerve does mainly send signals UP from the reproductive organs. So therefore there has to be a conscious sublimation of the reproductive energy - and this is mainly done through the standing active exercises with the thigh muscles sore - every night before sleep - as a "win win" practice of purification and healing energy.
So the thing about Ramana Maharshi is that he even refused to see his own mom - as he took nine years of nonstop meditation at the Ashram. So while he did not practice yoga asanas he did require a vegetarian diet and no eye contact with females. This is the traditional Brahmin priest code of "mind yoga" - as I read a Brahmin code book that I found in a used book store. If a Brahmin priest made eye contact with a female then three days of purification ritual was required. So based on the caste system in India then the Jnana Mind yoga training is the most strict in terms of starting out from the "top down" as you describe (meaning from the higher frequency of light as it goes out the eyes or conversely is turned around as the space between our thoughts).
And so then the Golden light as the Yang Shen or the "bilocation" physical body that Poonjaji experienced from Ramana Maharshi or that the students of Poonjaji also experienced - this is again due to this "quantum chemistry" that is explained by the color Gold for the element gold itself. In other words if matter is actually from light - as science now explains is true - therefore this relativistic quantum dynamic is inherent to reality and not just to the element of Gold itself. So with the element Gold the science explains that the blue light is absorbing virtual photons from the future. I have more details on my blog.
Of course this is all just theory or mental constructs and only the training or practice achieves results. So for Ramana Maharshi as he did his serious training then he only ate a spoonful of food a day - that was brought to him. So obviously this very strict type of training is rare to find in modern times of our materialistic high technology age. In fact Poonjaji stated that the environmental pollution is so bad now that is impossible to have our bodies purified enough to truly achieve the formless awareness samadhi state (that is beyond Nirvikalpa Samadhi).
So in the past such feats as Levitation - as my own teacher achieved - is a byproduct of the deep meditation. This levitation is also described in the biography of the most famous Thailand Buddhist meditation master, of "Phra Acharn Mun" - you can read his biography free online.
