It is feasible that other named characters mentioned in the Gospels served as eyewitness informants for the evangelists. Each example must be evaluated on an individual basis. Some of the oral traditions may very well go back to the apostles. Peter might have been the source of the story about the healing of his mother-in-law. Of course, the evangelists did not obtain all their material directly from eyewitnesses. Certain traditions could have been accurately transmitted even when eyewitnesses were not involved in the process.
