So the first number is the AAM part # as the secret OEM for the GM part # 12471617 that is actually the right hand side inner axle shaft or...
the Intermediate shaft seal (inboard) aka Axle Inner Shaft Seal aka differential INBOARD seal (the one next to the oil pan for the intermediate shaft). I'm gonna ask the local shop to do the job. The dealer said it's leaking - so we'll see. I can't talk to the mechanic at the dealer. And then the local mechanics keep insisting the dealer didn't do their previous repairs (and send me back to make the dealer redo the work). haha.
Here's what I wanted to tell you - turns out this part is listed as not available by GM OEM or direct parts supply. You can order it on Amazon but - the supply distributors get the AC Delco. So this person discovered the AC Delco part is too big - And so people keep having to get the too big leaking part replaced (under warranty). So the OEM was made by AAM - and NOT AC Delco!!
So it turns out this part "leaks" if it is 1.25 inches and that is the size of the AC Delco part.
So here is from a video of taking out the oil pan - but here he says,
"There's the Diff Out...you can now see a line of sight to all of the oil pan bolts"So that shot is from the FRONT of the car - now that I look at it - and the differential is going off to the right (which is the left side or driver's side - as the side is based on looking forward)...
Let me double check - he swings the camera around so it's confusing.
OK so here he just FLIPPED the camera around. So now we are looking with the left side forward.
I'm gonna now go to a different vid that actually shows the SEAL - Kevin nadeau.
OK if you compare this image with the top two - that's the seal that has to be replaced. He could have done it then as he says it is leaking! He says he got the new seal but I told him how the AC Delco seal still leaks. So you can see this is upside down and is the bottom "half" of the oil pan or an extension of it.
Let's put up the parts diagram.

So to the right is the oil pan and to the left is the front differential. So I was thinking at first - just spray that area with Permatex diff Seal fix (rubber in a can). But the seal has "tines" that lock into the bearing or whatever and so are under load pressure. And also you can't get to the back side of the seal.
So here you can see the differential is on the left side or driver's side - facing the front.
OK let's get an angle to lineup the diff better:
OK now a third or fourth vid - with the inner shaft or intermediate shaft - proving the long section faces BACKwards. If you study the above images - it all fits together!
But GM lists the part as OUT of Stock. So you can order it on Amazon for over twice the price that I just ordered it.
yeah so "19" is on the RIGHT or passenger side of the car (facing forward)
So this is flipped upside down. That's the intermediate shaft facing the PASSenger (right) side. So the long end faces REAR - not forward. And the intermediate shaft is near the TOP.
So that means this image is facing "forward" with the top part as the CV half shaft on the driver's Left side. no that doesn't work - is it "upside down? So part
So how did I get the lower price?
I researched what the OEM manufacturer was for GM - it was NOT AC Delco but rather AAM.

OK so this is a HUGE repair to replace this one seal.
And this person ordered the AC Delco part ONLY to discover that it leaked!!
And then he reordered from GM and he must have gotten the AAM part from a back order supply company.
And guess what?
The GM dealers are now using the AC Delco part - so as he discovered - people keep having their front differential seal leaks and it's covered under warranty. So they get the part replaced 4 to 6 times - !!!
Do I have the wrong part? it's pretty loose on the shaft, installed perfect but leaked. PIA to remove it... Did it without touching motor mounts or oil pan!:biggrin2:

So then he confirms it is the correct part yet....
The larger, but "identical" part came from the dealership down the street.
So the DEALER part did not fit - so was it ACDelco? It MUST have been!
the ebay ad has same # as I have on it.
Which was the AC Delco number!!
So the ebay link says "Made in Brazil" and it's AC Delco.
The GM OEM link on Amazon also says, "Made in Brazil" but it's sold through another supply vendor...
So they're both made in Brazil. I'm trying to see the difference just from the other images.
OK I think I found it - the AC Delco part says "Air Side" - and the GM OEM part on Amazon also says "Air Side" - just as on the left side that is too big. but the right side part does NOT have an "air side" stamped on it.
So now I think I found the OEM AAM part on Ebay - a better photo and sure enough NO "air side" stamped on it!!
WOW!!!
So... that means GM dealers are currently using the LEAKING AC DELCO part!!
Or maybe not all of them?
It's Sold as a GM OEM part but upon researching you find that it is NOT the real OEM part!!
AAM is the real OEM part!!
So then he says about the AC Delco part:

So how do I know - because I convered the metric back to the primitive measurement.
OK so the Amazon link for the GM OEM shop is called "world parts direct" so then you go to THEIR site and the part is listed as DISCONTINUED - same as the GM direct parts site or GM OEM site as well.
So that means the World Parts Direct must have sent out the actual real OEM part to this fellow - the AAM part. Whereas his local GM dealer ordered the AC DElco part - as did other dealers.
Wild - so now I need to double check.
The SS is a V8 but it states the same part number - even though the axle size is probably different?

The NAPA part is 1.24" which is the SAME as the shaft - so I think that's the TIMKEN part?
when I said, "Intermediate shaft seal" the local mechanic knew
precisely what I meant! Impressive. So - strangely Autozone and NAPA
appear to have the WRONG part - and it is apparently from Timken. Timken
only makes the CV axle seal and yet NAPA and Autozone have it listed as
the intermediate shaft seal. They don't give the brand name for the
part - strange - but the image lacks the "tines." The AAM part # as the

46002024, SABO 7574 as sold by Drivetrain America. They only had one in
stock. haha. So O'Reillys sells the leaking AC Delco part!! So the
dealers must be using the AC Delco since GM lists 12471617 as
"discontinued" and so since the engine design is "discontinued" then the
mechanics must just search the part number without knowing the OEM part
number 46002024 from AAM. Pretty wild. The AC Delco part is two tenths
of an inch too big. This should be interesting. I hope the part fits
after they completely take the whole front axle 4WD disconnect assembly
apart.
