Will BlueDevil swelling solvent power steering Stop Leak Work? Synthetic Plasticizer Power Steering Seal Leak Stop

WOW -  I just checked and NO LEAK so far - even though I did extra driving.

So maybe I won't have to use the BlueDevil after all? I hope not...

congrats - you're the only one who has uploaded the product to youtube as far as I can tell. https://www.stp.com/sites/default/files/STP%C2%AE-High-Mileage-Power-Steering-Fluid-%2B-Stop-Leak-12oz-SDS.pdf Oh it's mineral oil - just like LUCAS. Hilarious. Oh it DOES have a bit of synthetic plasticizer in it! cool. https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/compound/Benzyl-butyl-phthalate#section=Use-and-Manufacturing
OK so I added that above STP "stop leak" - which is mainly also like Lucas but ALSO has a synthetic plasticizer!! cool. Maybe it will help. I'll drive around a bit tomorrow - but first see if all my driving today worked in that second bottle of Lucas.

YEP - new leak from LUCAS. So I'm gonna drive to recycle the power steering fluid I took out - and then see if it is any better or still leaking. Since it's supposed to get better with more driving. And if still leaking then I'll try the synthetic swelling treatment - just 3 ounces!!

I cleaned off the "residual oil" from where it appeared to be leaking - the seal - and so on the frame around it. So far no leaks yet today - I just drove more to really got the engine heated up. So now it's just a waiting game. I added almost two full bottles of Lucas. So if there's any more leaking then I'll add 3 ounces of Bluedevil. promo vid

OK I found a THIRD auto parts store that stocked Blue Devil - it's a little 8 ounce bottle for $13 and I said, "thanks for stocking it." And the worker said, "That stuff's amazing."
Does anyone know if this is the same old product that just dissolves all the rubber seals and then makes them swell up? This stuff never lasts very long and destroys your entire hydraulic system (reservoir, pump, hoses, rack and pinion). Before pouring this in a P.S. reservoir, I would try soaking both an old and new rubber seal to see if they just swell up, if so stay away from these type of products. But if it did work, you could also consider draining the old fluid out and replacing it with new fluid to keep from damaging the other seals/hoses in the system
Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether is a primary alcohol that is ethanol substituted by a 2-ethoxyethoxy group at position 2. It has a role as a protic solvent. It is a diether, a primary alcohol and a hydroxypolyether.
It is an active solvent for cellulose acetate butyrate, nitrocellulose, epoxy resins, and other coating materials.

BlueDevil Products do not contain petroleum which is what causes other like products to swell the seals.
The BlueDevil Power Steering Stop Leak is specifically designed to repair leaks coming from around any of the rubber seals or gaskets.

So neither the two auto parts stores had Blue Devil stocked! So I got another 12 ounces of Lucas Leak Stop and - when I got back - so far no leaking yet from the previous treatment. I then used the transfer pump to take out about 12 ounces. Wow - I'm really thinking this stuff is NOT GOOD for the power steering.... dissolving the rubber seals?

I put this crap in my power steering and the leak instantly got worse. Instead of taking a week to run dry it now takes only hours! 100 thumbs down!

Same 💩 happened to me too. Before i would only have to top it off about once every week to week in half but, right after I poured in 1/3 of this power steering Blue Devil 💩, I'm going through almost two quarts of power steering fluid a day and it's barely the second day.

Very curious what kind of cars u r all using this in. Make model year.
What I took out seemed less viscous for sure than the Lucas mineral oil leak stop. So then I poured in the full bottle of the new Lucas 12 ounce Leak Stop. This leak has just been "one spot" a night - so I don't think it's worth replacing the whole rack and pinion for just a leaking seal or o ring... So now I just need to drive it around more to see if I get any more leaks. Then I can try the Blue Devil if the Lucas still doesn't stop it.

Blue Devil review vid

"when it does its magic hopefully...it appears to have worked."
(1 BOTTLE OF POWER STEERING FLUID EVERY 3 DAYS - BADDD LEAK) - I MIXED BLUE DEVIL POWER STEERING STOP LEAK WITH 1 12Oz BOTTLE OF LUCAS POWER STEERING STOP LEAK & LIKE MAGIC - BARELY A DRIP EVERY 3/4 DAYS (LITERALLY)
So - it ONLY works on SEALS...."some sort of magic in there." - it's a Synthetic Plasticizer chemical. haha.

What I don't get is that supposedly you have to replace the WHOLE power steering Rack and pinion...

ONLY PRODUCT THAT WORKED

THIS STUFF WORKS! I had a bad power steering leak in my GMC work van, leaving a puddle the size of a dinner plate every time I parked. Tried several other major brand stop leak products
Just use a third.... (2nd vid)

Number one in the country - why? LUCAS is just mineral oil - and it messes up the power steering pump if used too much - I think - but maybe the pump doesn't have a "motor" since it's a hydraulic pump run by the crank belt....

Anyway the Lucas is not fixing the leak yet....

So I'm gonna try Blue Devil....

It's NOT thick - it's clear and thin....
Yes. I tried Lucas before and it didn’t stop the leak. This did. It will work on the low pressure side. Nothing will work on the high.
Nothing works on the high pressure side. 150 psi
vid - seal inside the boot causing the leaking

Well I'm pretty sure that is what is going on - since the lines were replaced not that long ago and I don't see any rust or holes where the fluid is. Still I'm not sure...

Hi there, do we have to replace the whole steering rack assemble if there is a leak? or not necessary, Just a question. Thank you for advice.

Mikko Carlos First pour in some blue devil power steeping stop leak and see if that stops the leak.

so that's Blue Devil - what is it?

Diethylene_glycol

Diethylene glycol (DEG) is an organic compound with the formula (HOCH2CH2)2O. It is a colorless, practically odorless, poisonous, and hygroscopic liquid with a sweetish taste.

replaced with Blue Devil. In any case, the active ingredient is diethylene glycol monoethyl ether, one of the chemicals found in the mixture of glycol ethers that comprise brake fluid. Does anyone have any experience with brake fluid as a stop leak?
So the main ingredient of Blue Devil is less than 5% of Brake Fluid.... based on the below NAPA brake fluid....

we used to soak fuel injector seals in brake fluid to "swell" them up a little bit before replacement in a certain high pressure fuel system. Not really a stop leak application, but follows the idea of stop leaks swelling seals to stop leaks.

Effects of brake fluid components on rubber

The hardness and swelling of the seal rubbers, when exposed to brake fluid, must ... oligoether, which is the monomethyl ether of a polyglycol based on ethylene .

Instructions say 1/3 bottle. Bottle is 8oz so that would be close to 3oz. I had a severe leak in my Toyota power steering gear box, Used several bottles of lucas to no avail. Tried 1/2 bottle of blue devil and it slowed but didn't stop. Used rest of bottle and it stopped. I recommend it. Be sure to put it in when you are going to be driving for some time to give it time to work

Power steering stop leak works by "expanding" the O-Rings between those seals. If my car was 20 years old, I wouldn't try a stop leak first, as it might simply destroy whatever is left of those O-Rings.
I tried Lucas and that slowed it down but it was still leaking pretty bad , I was adding fluid every couple days and my driveway was covered in stains, also the Lucas made my pump squeal very loud. Since my car has high mileage and the repair isn't worth the cost , I was getting ready to trade in my car but wanted to try this product after reading other reviews on here. I added the fluid and within a few hours I lost power steering completely!
BlueDevil fixed my leak in under 5 minutes. After using about 114oz of the other stop leaks combined, I was truly amazed at how 3oz of BlueDevil (1/3 of the 8oz bottle) stopped the leak. If you are curious as if it is worth the money, I will tell you that buying anything else is truly a waste. I still have 5oz of BlueDevil stop leak left, and with how well it is holding up (about a week so far), I don't think I will even need to add more. For the peace of mind, I will now forever turn to BlueDevil before Lucas or any other brand.
Followed directions exactly as stated on the bottle. Made leak much worse. Completely drained my reservoir within a few hours.
this turned a slow leak into a gusher.

Diethylene Glycol Monomethyl Ether swelling rubber
Wow - now we know why they say only add 3 ounces!! Amazing.

That's the percentage increase in rubber swelling! Amazing.

So that must be what is meant by "dissolving" - as it is a solvent....

So after adding Blue Devil, within 1 week something exploded under the car and all the PS fluid leaked out. ALL OF IT. I had to tow the car to get home, and changed the Rack and Pinion with all the rubber hoses ,700$ job. It looked like the seals (from the boots) of the rack and pinion failed completely.
Conclusion:
Should have continued using Lucas ps stop leak until I had enough money saved to change the rack n pinion.
just after two days it turned it into a very fast leak. My friedn had the same experience with this product. They should change the name to speed up leak
made the leak much worse.
seals completely blown. Would not recommend this product for any Honda Vehicles. Didn't realize so much damage could be done with such product.
Added about 1/2 a bottle, 2 days later I had a catastrophic failure in the pump.
a few days after using this product, the power steering rack seals swelled and popped out, causing a catastrophic steering rack leak
made matters three times worse can see fluid draining from tank fast.DO NOT BUY YOU WILL REGRET IT.
